What a class act. Her win was so well-deserved. So strange hearing her normal speaking voice. Nobody else could have done Edith but her. Edith was my favorite character although they all did an amazing job. She was just so lovable. My favorite episode is the end of season eight when the Stivics move west. Rob Reiner had said how none of the ending of that episode was acting. It shows how much they truly loved each other.

Jean made Edith into one of the most memorable characters in TV history. She had such a sweetness and vulvernability, you couldn't help but love her. The episode were she was nearly raped, "Edith's 50th birthday," she was so good, such terror in her eyes, it made me tear up. I still watch the show, even though I've seen all the episodes numerous times, it stands as a great show, with an incredible cast. I liked all the actors, but Jean was my favorite. It reminds me of my parents, who are no longer here, they enjoyed the show.

They were all so wonderful. Watching Carroll O Connor speak is a trip too. Magic chemistry on All in The Family. Gloria, Sally Struthers was such a perfect casting choice too. So pretty & cute, but in a realistic way & looked like her TV “dad” enough to be believable. Had her moms heart but her daddy came out too lol! Rob Reiner was terrific. They were all terrific. Most realistic family I’ve seen on TV to this day. Nowdays so many actors play “themselves” u see them in interviews & they are their character. These were amazing character actors without being camp, or seeming like a “play” even tho they came from theatre they transitioned it to TV perfectly.

Wish there was a way to upload pics on here as I have an AWESOME one taken of me and the legendary JEAN STAPLETON outside her dressing room in the basement of LINCOLN CENTER in NYC. The time was June of 2002, only nine months after 9/11 and I was visiting the city of my birth, NYC, and treating myself the night before my birthday to a play written by two-time Oscar winning playwright HORTON FOOTE. The play was utterly forgettable but it's star JEAN STAPLETON was UNforgettable. I had the high privilege and honor of meeting this gracious, classy lady after the show. She was one of the nicest stars I ever met (and I've met plenty!) and she spent 15 minutes of her down-time speaking with me. The picture was taken by her co-star HALLIE FOOTE (the daughter of the playwright). And I treasure it and my wonderful encounter with BOTH of these talented ladies, to this very day. Thanks HALLIE and RIP to the late, great JEAN STAPLETON. They sure don't make them any better than she was. On and off-camera.

Is there a full broadcast of this show out there because that night(for one of the if not the only time) the emmy awards were broken into due to a major news story. That night President Carter announced the Camp David Accords between Israel and Egypt. And remember in 1978 there were NO cable outlets for news so you had to depend on the big 3 networks and this development was MAJOR news.
@mthivier7 жыл бұрын
Yes! I remember that too. I remember that President Carter's announcement at Camp David with Begin and Sedat broke into an awards show, and I'd always remembered it as being the Oscars, but you're right, it was actually the Emmys. I'd love to see that again too. I could be wrong after all these years, but I think, because the Emmy show was live, they stopped during President Carter's speech, and once they returned to the show, picked up where they'd left off, so the TV audience didn't miss anything. I think this is the case because I remember various award winners congratulating President Carter in their acceptance speeches.
