I'm glad I'm not the only one that nerded out on Lanois back then. I also drove up to Oxnard to look for that place on labor day weekend in 97 or so. I saw Mark Howard on the sidewalk washing a motor bike. In a rare moment of overcoming my general shyness I went up and talked to him. He gave me a tour of the place, showed me the console (I didn't really conceive of what a neve was at the time), and he played me all the instrumental tracks from the slingblade soundtrack! He just described it as "a movie soundtrack that Daniel and I have been working on for Billy Bob Thornton". That day changed the trajectory of my life and I own and operate a recording studio now since 2002 because of that visit. It was so inspiring to see the world of a person that manifested their artistry into so many physical dimensions.

A great example of ‘playing a song, like you never want it to end.’ A sign of a great player.

Listening to you on KZbin Music is a great experience. Your singing has the warmth of Gram Parsons, your guitar playing is meticulously delivered with a Chet Atkins precision and your song writing is as comfortable as a favorite shirt. Add to this your incredibke talent and your humanity as a humble character with a work ethic second to none. You Jedd Hughes are a diamond in a field of stones. I've listened to Otis since his followers were around 2,000 and you my friend are the greatest takeaway😊

Hi Jedd - really enjoying your videos again lately. Great to see you posting so much. New room is really nice. I love the UFO painting. Anyway, I had the same experience with Acadie. That hit me as hard as Buckley's Grace did. Don't know if you caught it many, many years later but he was in a band with Trixie Whitley (Chris Whitley's daughter) called Black Dub. Great listening. And of course, since I mentioned his name, don't forget to listen to Chris Whitley every now and then. You sound great, Jedd. Keep sharing with us.

Man, Lanois is my favorite producer. Emmylou’s Wrecking Ball album is a great example of his guitar work also, may this be love has that Lanois guitar magic. His recent album Heavy Sun has great guitar work and amazing vocal arrangements. He also released Player Piano which sounds incredible on vinyl. So much music, I could go on forever. Have a great show tonight!

SO many people have done their best work (IMO) with Lanois at the helm. Wrecking Ball was both a reinvention and a timeless classic. Dylan's Time Out of Mind is one of my favourite Dylan albums. U2...Willie Nelson's Teatro. In 1996 a band called Luscious Jackson had a couple of hits which actually sounded pretty interesting to me whilst not being my usual thing. Sure enough. Lanois produced.

I've had strings "stick" on the TOM with a Bigsby. I put a roller bridge on to stop that. StewMac has 4 brands, TonePros being the most $$ at $95. The last one I used was a Golden Age, their house brand, $61. The TOM comes off and the roller goes right on. The Golden Age lets you adjust the center of the roller L and R. The Schaller is good too, and they have a locking one that looks interesting. The pups on that Gretsch sound really good! Have a good gig tonight mate!! 8) --gary

I saw DL in Boston when he was doing Black Dub - his band with Trixie Whitley, Daryl Johnson, and Brian Blade. DL was playing his old gold top. His amp was turned up to 11 and he controlled the volume purely through his right hand touch. It was amazing.

I recently got a 2011 'Firebird' Jet with the perfect neck and TV Classics. Upgraded the pots and put a Lindy Fralin treble bleed kit on the master volume.. man it's one "my no. 1's" those Gretschs can really do it all if you ever feel like leaving the Strat AND LP at home for the gig. Cheers Jedd always love hearing your playing after a long day of landscaping in this abysmal heat!

Great tention notes. Could become a song. Nice looking and sounding Gretch you got. Can you recommend a replacement bridge for my 6120 reissue (2009 Brian seltzer)? The bridge on that is actually vaporizing. Any other upgrades you recommend?

As ever sounding tasty as Jedd! Wish I was over there to catch your gig. Ah thats so cool you mentioned Mark Punch big fan of his, when I lived in Balmain (Sydney) in the 90's he used to have a regular gig with his rockabilly/soul/R&B outfit called Johnny Guitar at The Unity Hall Hotel, he would often play that mentioned Gretsch, he's always inspiring.....

@@JeddHughesOfficial They were way cool my friend I would go every week! Another aside he played some tasty stuff on Rick Price's Tambourine Mountain which I'm sure you would have heard & caught them at The Basement as a 3 piece touring that album & it was magical., he was playing that Gretsch that night as well. I believe Rick is over there in Nashville now as well, all you cool Oz musician's are hanging tough over there....more power to you & hope you all cut through you are all amazing!

Hey Jedd have great show tonight! Great to hear that uncle Larry is going to join you on a few tunes! Just heard him mention it on his channel this morning! I wish I lived a bit closer to Nashville as I would definitely join you for your show this evening! I can’t think of any two folks I’d rather see play at the moment! Break a leg Jedd! Hope there might be a way that a tune or two that you play this evening find the way on to your UTUBE channel!

Thanks for your videos Jedd. You've been one of my most viewed channels lately and the Lanois mentions only further the connection. "Wrecking Ball" might have been the record that was a turning point for me and got me going down the rabbit hole. If you haven't read it, check out Mark Howard's book "Listen Up". Lots of Lanois stories and a quick, easy read.

I'm going to bypass the master volume on my players edition Jet. It already has individual volumes and a tone and I don't use the global master. I'd thought of doing a Reverend Guitars style bass roll-off control but I always feel like a guitar sounds better with less wire in it!

That thing you were doing at the end is an E over D polychord. Part of the D lydian scale. The way you voice led back to 1 would be majII -> IV -> I which works great cause you got that G# to G to F# line in there.
