Grievous 2003 thought that he killed Sha'a Gi, but he couldn't understand the piwer he was dealing with. Sha'a Gi merely faked his death, so the events that the Force wanted could happen. Tonfa would be sick if it were engineered differently, so instead of a lightsaber blade sticking out where a tonfa shaft would be, the outer edge of the shaft is a lightsaber emiter.
