Jeep 4.6 Stroker pt 14: Valve Cover Spacer Install (XJ, TJ, CJ, YJ, LJ)

To make clearance for the Harland Sharp roller rockers and still retain the factory valve cover oil baffle we have to install a valve cover spacer kit.

I picked up this used 180k mile 4.0 Liter Jeep engine to replace the 250k mile engine in my Cherokee. After considerable thought, I have decided to build it into a rip snorting 4.6 Liter stroker for my CJ-7 and then put the current CJ motor into the XJ. It is. Hope it does not introduce leakage. If it does, I’ll remove the roller rockers and go back stock

Pretty cool they make a spacer for that application. That said I'd be wary of 2 more leak opportunities, particularly on any AMC Jeep Eagle Dodge Daimler Chrysler Fiat product.

Excellent video! Looking to add a 5/8" spacer for roller rocker clearance on our 2000 XJ. I noted your comments on bolt type/size but not sure of the exact selection on the Grainger site. Could you be so kind to provide the bolt specs and link here? This is all I need to figure out to wrap up ordering parts, then install to eliminate the rocker tick! : )

I'm running into some troubles with valve cover clearance. I've got a 258 with a 4.0 7120 casting head and the aluminum valve cover. Swapped to scorpion 1.7 non adjustable roller rockers and bent 2 pushrods. The back side of the rocker hits the side of the aluminum valve cover. Scorpion says basically to bad. They claim that they tested their rockers on a 1996 Jeep 4.0 which would have the steel valve cover they say that they had no issues. I grabbed a steel cover from local scrap yard but now I'm worried about the baffles on top of the vc and hitting the side any thoughts??

Even the non adjustable ones? And if the valve cover is lifted with a spacer how does that solve the issue of the back side of the rocker hitting the side of the valve cover?

One is designed for the earlier valve cover and one the later
