So I have a question about this. On my jeep I have an aftermarket valve cover that the previous owner installed, along with a K&N open air intake. I’ve had a P1294 code for a while that’s been an on/off gremlin, and just two days ago I decided to replace both valves and grommets. The previous owner had a completely open valve in the back, not the 1/8in pinhole. But when I put the correct part back there, the engine was real shaky, as if it were going to stall on me first drive, and then completely misfired on me in the second start. So I put the part the previous owner had back on an all was ok, no CEL, a somewhat high idle, first start it’s 750rpms, and then after driving and putting it in park, around 950 rpms. No code yet, but why might my engine had misfired with the correct part on it? I should mention, I also replaced the IAC valve a few months ago.

My 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4.0 CCV system doesn't look anything like this. The front valve on the valve cover, the hose goes to the back of the air filter box, goes over the rear duct (the one that goes from the air filter box to the intake manifold) it then does a complete U-turn and connects to a port sticking out of the aft section of the air filter box. You have the hose connected on the filter box assembly (on the left side). I have a port in the same place that looks like it would receive a hose but it is angled from the box at about a 45 degree angle and points aft. When I removed the lid for the air filter and looked, there is no hole there. It does not even go into the filter box. I don't know what it is there for but it does nothing. I've looked all day online trying to find another example of this setup on this year and model vehicle and it doesn't exist. It appears to be unique to my 1996 Cherokee.

On a CJ with a lift .. doesn’t the lift cause the pinion angle to rise toward the transfer case causing the inner C to rotate forward .. losing caster ? But with a shim it rotates the axle backwards causing the front pinion angle to change back down .. which I guess is ok since the front would only be used in slow application 4wd? But a cut and turn of the inner C.. would be the best option for both caster and pinion.. just thinking out loud and I could be wrong

With quality leaf springs (BDS, Old Man Emu) and stock length shackles, the pinion angle, and castor, will not change.

The valves, no...but if the tube from the metered valve (rear in your case) is torn causing a massive vacuum leak, it is possible to create misfires.

I have a 99 wj, and i got it at 90k, and now im approaching 100k and the seals are weakening. The oil pressure gauge is always way higher-by25%, my question is would a bad oil sending unit/pump issue cause too much pressure in the system, therefore causing the seals to go? I plan on doin the valve cover and the rear pcv/ccv 90° fitting- the metered one..to try to alleiviate the slight leak issue, but im afriad its gointo get worse and and fail completely. Im cleaning/rebuilding the throttlebody at the same time.. it runs pretty damn good, but iv had 4 '99xjs, never had this prob. So i feel stupid. Also, should i do the rear main as well while im at it? I dont want to kill it.. thanks and great vid

Hi SB, I have a 1983 CJ5, and I just (almost) finished a (1992) 4.0L engine swap. I installed with the factory Cherokee engine wiring harness/ECU. I had previously replaced the factory, CJ5 wiring with the complete Painless kit. 4.0L is running (very well) but I haven't done the 15 min, initial run-in because I've yet to connect the (Speedhut) tachometer. Previously when I installed the Painless kit (when the Jeep had the 304 V8 engine) is when I installed the aftermarket tach, and it worked. My former neighbor who was a mechanic helped me w/the Painless kit, and he hooked up the tach. I'm pretty sure the Painless, purple wire tagged "Coil/Ignition" is what was providing the tachometer its signal (previously w/the V8 engine). Please, if this is correct, to make the tach function again, would I simply splice the purple Painless (Coil/Ignition) wire into the negative side of the (4.0L Cherokee) two-wire plug connected to the coil? Thanks from east/central Arizona.
@superb60ce2 ай бұрын
You could try that, but I'd check the wiring diagram for the tachometer signal from the engine control unit.
@UnderSprayedWhiteSkies2 ай бұрын
@@superb60ce Hi again, (with a little trepidation) I went ahead and spliced the purple, Painless wire marked "Coil/Ignition" into the negative (black w/grey tracer), 4.0L coil plug wire, and it worked perfectly! After re-programming the Speedhut tachometer to 6-cyl. mode, I did the 15 min. cam break in. Engine fired right up, and break in session went smoothly.

NEVER PURCHASE Dupli-Color tm paints. Dupli-Color automobile paints claim they are as the original paints cars have, but it's not true. I have used them according to my car paint code and it's a satin color without gloss after it dries. You have to apply a Clear Exact-Match Automotive Top Coat apart which makes a little difference but becomes a dirty powder after rain and sun. No clear coat. No shine at all. Their paints never look like a mirror.

I am not seeing oil problems in the air intake parts, but have been having a rough idle mainly when the jeep is cold. Cleaned the throttle body, new conical air filter.. noticed there appears to be some oil seepage around the front port. Hose rubber seems fine. jeep is 2005, 123K on her, but I have had for 5 years and maybe 5K, so not sure if that grommet is petrified per your video. It does appear to be malleable. Could a poor seal there cause that rough idle in those instances? Have not replaced the IAC because I am not seeing a spike or erratic idle. It is just a really rough idle on occasion, and when it does occur the engine is cold.

I have a 2019 Nissan 370Z with the 3.7 liter VQ37VHR engine that came out in 2009. I had a used oil analysis done on the engine with it running a good quality SN rated oil and had an iron concentration of 70 ppm after about 3700 miles on the oil. A more normal level would have been around 10 ppm, so I switched to an oil with a higher zinc, phosphorus and molybdenum level, Redline 5w-30. It has about a 50% higher level of these antiwear additives in it, so I'll see how it does when I get the lab test results back on it.
