Jeep Center Mount License Plate to Heavy Duty Tire Carrier in 10 minutes!

This time on the AutoEdits Jeep Wrangler Rubicon video series... I'll show you how I get from this cool center mount license plate setup and convert it to a heavy duty tire mount for big awesome Jeep tires and it only takes me about 10 minutes all in!
The components I use in this video are the MetalCloak rear license plate relocation kit and the SportGate Tire Carrier.

I like the hinge mounts, went with the Evo one on mine. I also broke my factory license plate mount on the first hard trail I did with this Jeep. I never really thought to take off my spare for city driving. To avoid the issue of dealing with prius parking to close I installed a backup camera on my JK. this has the bonus of working while on the trail and I need to back up.

@@AutoEdits Mine came with the nav screen so adding the camera was just a matter of running the cable and a little wiring. Took about as much time and effort as running my CB. Then I enabled the backup camera with my programmer.

Jason maybe just a small tip could you weld the top two bolts to a stripe of metal as well as bottom two That way you just hold on to metal strip and a line up the holes or top and one bottom on each side ?

I have different licence plate mount but with the same kind of hook up which has the running light and rear camera fab on it, detachable for when you have to remove the spare for use but I suppose it could be also rigged up that way if I wanted to go back to spare tire delete. :)

Hey Jason! Another great video! A buddy of mine wants to mount his 35" spare but he's afraid it might damage the tailgate hinge, have you experienced anything like that with your 38"?

It should be fine with a 35. This setup is super strong and handles my 38 with no problem at all.

Hey there, I haven't watched this one in a while but I tapped those holes with 1/4 -20 threads to hold those bolts. A tap costs about $2 at home depot.

On the core doors? I ordered the seal kit and it comes with some foam tape to put in strategic areas to help with that. Around the mirrors is a good spot to look ... we are about to get a bunch of rain here and I'll let you know how it does.
