So after 3 times I finally got the oil leaks to stop!!! The Jeep is one step closer to being back out on the trails enjoying the outdoors.

I never put RTV or soap on the back side of the seal, I only put RTV on the seal chamfered edges and main cap sides like your final attempt. 19k miles later after the seal replacement going strong Then 6 months later my trans front input seal blew, finally had enough and took it to a shop

I watched a ton of these videos also and I got lucky and it worked on my first attempt but I used your 3rd method the first time. It was hard to pick witch method to use but to me the soap helping the new rear main seal to slide in without damage was the way to go. I did mine when putting on my long arm kit so my front axle wasn't even in so I had a nice open area to do the oil pan which was so sweet.

I spent the better part of a week on my back doing this with a stock ride height Cherokee. Your final attempt is what I did originally. This is going back a number of years but I swear this is the way the mopar shop manual directs you. What I struggled with the most was putting back the upper seal, I ripped two trying to get it back in. Dish soap, oil etc but it finally worked. I’m glad you got it done. This job being a novice really kicked my butt.

I just put a new crate engine in my jeep and watched videos from felt pro because i had to install oil pan, and felt pro says and i quote “ do not put RTV on their blue or MLS gaskets..” so i didnt i just threw it in dry and been 700 miles and no oil pan leak 👍..

Hey, thanks... I'm currently tackling this project on my 2003 TJ. You have some solid advice here... I had to drop my exhaust system to get the oil pan out.. Fun. Hoping I can be lucky and do this only once... BUT.. I hear you... and am ready for repeated beatings until moral improves. ... Cheers.

I just did a manual transmission change and rear and oil pan seal. Now oil pouring out between bell housing and motor. I sure hope its one of these issues. Its a 91 comanche

Brake clean the heck out of it. Put leak dye in and put some eyeballs on it. Also good time to replace the oil filter housing seal.

I'm tackling this over the 4th of July week. Not looking forward to it. I have a new oil pan, oil pump, RMS and felpro gasket Appreciate your tips and tricks. I have a 4.5" lift, think that's enough clearance or jack it up and release the swaybar links? Thank you and love your rig!

Thanks!! Do the oil filter adapter o ring too! Way easier with oil pan off. 4.5 lift should give enough room to pull pan with out doing swaybar links. Just take your time and clean everything.

Take your time.... Clean, clean, clean... Use the right gasket sealer. Use dish soap when sliding in the new rear main and do not put gasket sealer on the seal itself. Also allow the rtv the proper time to setup and torque everything correctly. You got this!
