Nice build but for under $600 you could have added front and rear lunchbox lockers. That would make it 100% more capable, it would crawl over those obstacles like they weren't even there.

Very true! The owner of the XJ has some axle modifications he was planning on doing later on and didn't want to tamper with the stock ones too much. We like where your head is at though!

@@adamswaz4878 you dont have to regear to install a lunchbox locker. now since they a running larger tires they should regear and since they went with 33's id recommend a 4.56 gear. But they dont "need" a new carrier or regear.

Nice...I have almost finished my XJ on 1 ton axles and 38” Mud Grapplers and it’s first trip will be to Bundy Hill in a couple months due to the fact that I am working at the Toledo Jeep Facility reworking the JK line to start running the new truck and it’s a lot of hours right now...can’t wait to hit the trails in the XJ or my JK Rubicon or the TJ I just bought!

I misunderstood budget I think lol I paid 300$ for a 92 XJ and 175$ for 4 90% tread 33/12.50/R16 Goodrich M/T on marketplace 65$ for a 4.5” lift for front and back off an old XJ and some F150 axles for 50$ at the junkyard and bought my buddy a pack of Marlboro reds for some old 2” pucks he had at the the house so I had about $600 and a pack of smokes in mine and had a fun time building it

nice xj for just $1,600 ! Good choice on the lift kit. However, I'd recommend re-gearing the Diffs - the 33's will destroy stock diffs quickly. Personally, I do not venture off road without a full-size spare tire.

There is an XJ in a local 4 wheel shop getting it's diff's rebuilt right now due to this tire choice. Dana 30's,35's and Chrysler 8.25 are not very stout compared to Dana 44's which are known to snap axels when over stressed with oversized tires on a JK

The last time I was in the 4-wheel store they had a customer's XJ in the shop to rebuild and re-gear the diffs after the customer lifted it and drove it around with 33's. I hope you're luckier then he was. And yes the 8.25 is a huge improvement over the dana 35 but you still have a dana 30 in front geared for 28" tires.

Not a big fan of Zone lift kits but I guess its all preference. I paid less for a 4.5" long arm kit from rough country which is a more complete kit. I noticed the steering was upgraded, but no mention was made of it, and it wasn't factored into the price either.....

We all have our preference on what parts to use, we enjoyed the performance out of the Zone kit for what the Jeep was able to do. The steering is made by cav fab, the parts were included with the XJ and it took us a moment to figure out where they were manufactured. Great product by those guys so far.

I have spent a little over $4k in upgrades on my XJ. Upgrades include: 4.5" LA lift, 33" mud terrains, 8.8 rear end with Detroit locker and truss, custom rock sliders, fender flares, 4.10 gears, chromoly axle shafts, dana 30 truss, Lock Right, and a winch bumper with bull bar. I did have to pay $4,100 for the Jeep but it was fairly low miles and pretty clean all around. I did break a few bolts as well on the install. 20 years will really do a number on a bolt! Thanks for the reply!

Nice build. But you need some shackle relocation brackets to fix your (not so good) shackle angle. (seen at time 2:52). This current setup allows nearly zero droop and will be too stiff to have any decent compression. One of the best mods I've done on my XJ was the HD Offroad shackle relocation brackets.

Tell me more about it relocation brackets and droop ?
@sparcules
@sparcules 6 жыл бұрын
When the shackle is close to 90 degrees (straight up and down) it makes for a rougher ride. And you'll be close to full droop. You want the shackle to be kicked back about 45 degrees - which makes for a softer ride. And there's room for compression and droop. I installed these: hdoffroadengineering.myshopify.com/products/xj-shackle-relocation-kit

When I hear "budget build" I'm not thinking of an advertisement for an overpriced lift kit. I'm thinking resourcefulness. Also, if youre on a limited budget, go with "on the cheap," used parts from other sources and budget for the right parts, otherwise your paying for two builds (or more), that may well add up to more than doing it right in the first place. Using used, cheap parts lets you decide if you like that product or type of build for your specific needs. Search the forums and read lots of reviews. Don't build a crawler if you are only building a hunting rig. Or, just throw your money away and impress people who don't matter. It's up to you.

Your parts estimate seems on point. Any estimate on how much this would cost in labor? I am a fabricator so I build my own bumpers and tire carriers, but I don't have the facilities to safely work on suspensions to this level. Also, low-rust, low-mile XJ's in Southern California are in the $6-$8k range.

Do a REAL budget build like homemade rear blocks and longer shackles. Homemade pucks for the front springs. Cheap Monroe shocks. Sure the geometry would be all fd up and ride like s. I mean something that anyone could build with zero money like a HS kid or someone from another country without access to parts because of prohibitive shipping costs. Built from scrap stock lying around the front yard
@TheAmericanUhate
@TheAmericanUhate 5 жыл бұрын
Lol blocks and pucks? Really? Plenty of other types of vehicles to get actual parts off at the junkyards. Coils from an older f150 gives some lift. Any 2.5 wide leaf for a bastard pack. JK rear lower control arms for front lower control arms on an XJ. Chevy or dodge 1500 brake lines. Tons of parts to be swapped for XJ's. Fuck some blocks and pucks.

I dont see where the almost 5k was spent. I'm 2500 into my nearly rust free long armed XJ with OTK steering and only 132k miles. Looks nice but for that cost you would expect a regear at least or long arms at minimum.
