I'm about to take on this job on my 98' XJ - also red ;) I noticed you installed soundproofing - the dynamat. I was going to use foam backed headliner fabric for my refit. But also thought about adding soundproofing. Do you think the dynamat would fit with the foam backed stuff over top? Or were you using the dyanmat as a replacement for the headliner foam?

I’m not sure if I fully understand your question. But I think you’re asking if along with the dynamat on the ceiling would some foam insulation between the dynamat and the headliner board fit too. And I think thin foam would fit too. The headliner board sits against the brace so you have the thickness of the brace to work with. Because of this You would not be able to put foam over the brace. You’d have to work around that. Hope that answers your question.

Wait. Aren't the "oh crap" handles supposed to hang down?

Is there any certain type of material that you wouldn’t recommend
@4HIGHGARAGE Жыл бұрын
This is the second time I’ve done the headliner. The first time was with headliner material. It’s what failed this time and is the grey material you see me remove. I don’t recommend using that. It’s some kind of fabric and foam combination and it separated. The black stuff I’m scraping is the foam part of that material. Other than that regular fabric should be fine.

do you still hve the clunking issue on the front end and if not how did you fix it?
@4HIGHGARAGE Жыл бұрын
It is still there and nope haven’t found a solution. I’ve got a handful of ideas and parts to throw at it. LoL. Just need to find the time to mess with it and shoot the video so stay tuned. It’s not next up but it’ll be coming. Thanks !!

How has that 77 held up after 4 months ?
@4HIGHGARAGE Жыл бұрын
Still holding on strong. Let’s give it a Texas summer before I given an honest opinion. But from my understanding it should hold as long as you’ve put down enough glue. So plan to use the whole can! That’s what I did.

@@4HIGHGARAGE Good stuff man, as a former sheet metal worker that used to use tons of 77 to hold insulation to ductwork, I am going to use actual duct liner glue when I do mine I have a feeling it will hold forever. on a side note, my son did his headliner with 77 and after a few months it let go, he redid it using weldwood contact cement he is about 18 month in and it seems to be working. In my opinion, I think some people have good luck and some people dont ha ha ha. Merry Christmas :)

What size was ur fabric?

Man I don’t remember. I got it at Joanna’s fabrics. I remember it was wider than most of the rolls of fabric.
