Jeep Cherokee XJ water leak issue SOLVED

I finally figured out where the rain water was leaking into my XJ after probably years of being unaware of the issue.

Same on 2000 Cherokee Xj.

On my 94 water was coming in from the rear hatch streaming in around the tail light assemblies. There is a notch on the bottom of the housing that needs to be seated behind a small nub on the body and then screwed in place sealing the gasket that gets sandwiched against the body. Gasket may need replacing. I also ran a bead of silicone across the top of the housing.

i have a 95 xj and it is in bad shape but got it for free engine trans and transaxle are in great shape. but i noticed i had water leak where you have dont know if it is that but thanks

gonna have to check this out on mine. My passenger side door jams are dry, but at the edge of the carpet next to the doors is pretty wet after a couple of rains.

Might be worth checking under the carpet too, these cars have really thin sheetmetal you wanna catch any rust ASAP

yeah, i dont have a garage, and its been raining like crazy here every single day, and for the next week. When it dries up thats my first priority is pulling the interior and getting rid of any rust and patching any holes then sealing it up.

I wonder if sealing that joint might hold water in the tray area...might need to breathe and expel any water inside there so it doesn't rust.

my 98 xj does exactly the same thing. I'm bleaching all the carpet matting etc.

I wish we had the same year/model. This is the 4th video with the 4th possible source of the problem. I have yet to find a video with the same model as mine.

I noticed mine has that same leak from the seam and it’s pooling on to the blower motor seal. Did this end up solving it for good? Thanks for uploading this.

Yes it seems to be fixed, no leaks so far. I slathered a bunch of clear waterproofing silicone around the lower half of the blower fan opening and sealed the seam above it with RTV.

Mine was around the a/c drain line ....used roof leak fix

Nice, my XJ didn't come with A/C so i'm not familiar with how those are set up
