Jeep CJ-7 LED Lighting Upgrades (CJ, YJ, TJ, XJ)

2500 mile restoration update. I have upgraded some of my lighting to LED bulbs for safety reasons. Much of this applies to all Jeeps prior to 2006.

Great video. One Jeeper to another - I have the solve for your problem. I have an '84 CJ7 with all LED bulbs inside and out, including the front blinkers in the grill. Front blinkers I used # 1157-A27-T bulbs and the side markers are 194-AHP5 auto-polarity reversing bulbs. I also used two electronic flashers in the fuse panel, one for the blinkers and one for the emergency flashers. However, the fuse box sockets are reversed polarity of each other. So you need a polarity reverser on one flasher unit. I used a United Pacific 90650 flasher unit for the blinkers in the fuse panel and their 90652 unit for the emergency flashers. The 90652 is the exact same as the 90650 but includes the polarity reverser. You'll also need 100 ohm resistors, one each, behind the front blinkers between the blinker wire (not the marker light wire) and the blinker housing (ground). I just soldered them in place right behind the light housings. The guy you referenced online as showing his work is because he still had the stock gauges in the dash with the stock blinker indicator bulbs and not LEDs, so no resistors needed. I have digital after market gauges, so no stock incandescent bulbs in the gauge cluster, hence the resistors behind the front blinker lights. Yeah, I knew about the resistor trick, but wanted a truly plug and play solution. The flasher polarity is a crap shoot. I did not need a polarity reverser but have installed the same harness in a customer's CJ and did need one for his.

It was my understanding from others that you need to give each led lamp their own ground and that will solve your issue.

Still wont solve it. The side marker ground is the hot wire for the front blinker...it is a simple and effective system.

That is not the total solution...the front turn signals use a floating ground system. Plenty of solutions online, i do have "led" flashers, but I digress
