Thanks for the video! Pro tip - leave a couple bolts in when you knock the pan loose and it won’t drop like a rock full of fluid 😈 Just picked up a Commander and I’m pickin through filter and fluid changes - appreciate the tips!

Correction: you have to get a smaller diameter hose to get it in there and siphon out the oil. I was able to use that same exact fluid transfer pump and I put a smaller diameterhose on it and I was able to suck out exactly 4 quarts of oil. I just did this last week as a precursor to me getting ready to drop that pan next week and put an aftermarket replacement pan with a drain plug on it and change the filter But my point is you can get a hose down to get at least four quarts out of there.
@tedg37214 жыл бұрын
Always replaced with an aftermarket pan that has a drain plug on it! It's the best 30-$50 you will spend. That way you can do regular oil changes on that tranny to keep it lasting longer.

That drop was painful...never dropped the pan on my commander yet going to tomorrow during service but have dropped the pan and valve body on my 68rfe which removing the rear bolts and letting it drain from the corner has always worked I'm debating on doing this in the storage lot or making my lazy ass clear a spot in the garage on concrete to avoid bagging up soil after a a surprise.

@@vondellacrawford1405 Get the vehichle up to operating temperature then make sure your on level ground. Put the transmission in neutral then pull the dipstick out, wipe clean then put thr dipstick back in for about 5 seconds then check the level... Doing this any other way can give you inaccurate readings. If its too much then you need to take some out and if its not enough then you need to add fluid but it sounds like you need to service your transmission

I have a 2007 Jeep Commander 3.7 The issue I have is, no dipstick was included, only a twist on cap. I've bought the generic version dipstick and made my estimations for its length. The correct fill point I've seen videos should be a the 70 mark on the dipstick. The issue I have is, when inserting the dipstick it seems to bottom out but with alittle more pushing on it it goes in about another 2-3 inches. Which is the correct length? I've settled for 39 inches but don't know if it's correct? Filled to the 70 mark but seemed to have trans slipping still. Now at 90 mark, no slipping. How long is the dipstick that you have? And I understand that your vehicle is a 4.7 which may be different?

It's more important to note that nobody needs you tripping transmission fluid on the street. It's also important to note that you could simply pull a transmission cooling line at the front of the radiator and then just pump out the fluid that way too.
