the steering issue isnt about being on a ladder frame or unibody (jeep was the first to do a unibody with the cherokee) but it has everything to do with steering off road...they have to have a dead spot in the middle so that large rocks and such dont deflect steering so easily

How about creating your own test cycle? e.g. start with 100%, drive 100km, recharge for 2 hours, drive 200km, recharge for 30min, another 200km. Then give us all 3 values so can evaluate for ourself how this would apply for us?

Hi! I have a few questions: 1. Is the rear traction 100% electric? If the battery runs out, does it mean the vehicle is now only FWD? 2. Is there a possibility to only enable the petrol engine? If I do some offroading I want to have the battery full 3. What would be a typical regeneration percentage per, let's say, 100 Km? Given we put the car into the best energy saving mode available.

I don't know the Compass but I'm guessing you missed something in the cars settings menu. You complain about the steering feel and I am sure you'll find power steering assist settings called 'normal', 'comfort', and 'sport' in the menu. I have this in my WK2 Trailhawk and 'sport is a big improvement for road feel. I like how your comments seem completely unbiased. PHEV would have been good 10 or 15 years ago. Now we need FCV and EV.
@jsponson
@jsponson 4 жыл бұрын
How about PHEV that uses the battery for in-town driving and hydrogen for long-distance? I guess that’d be called FCBHEV? Probably not going to happen because by the time that FC becomes economical, battery tech might have matured to enable long range and quick charging. It’s an idea for heavier vehicles though.
@EdgarRenje
@EdgarRenje 4 жыл бұрын
@@jsponson FCEVs do have a small battery as buffer, because the fuel cell can't always produce the energy quickly enough.
@jsponson
@jsponson 4 жыл бұрын
@@EdgarRenje I'm aware of that, and FCV uses the battery for regenerative braking as well. However, that's not the point of my suggestion. I meant the battery would be large enough to store enough energy for in-town driving, and you plug it in to recharge of course. Hydrogen is only used for extended-range driving, not to charge the battery for shorter trips. One example I can think of is the Mercedes GLC F-Cell.
@EdgarRenje
@EdgarRenje 4 жыл бұрын
@@jsponson I don't think that's very useable. It makes the whole vehicle very heavy and needs a lot of space of both systems.
@jsponson
@jsponson 4 жыл бұрын
@@EdgarRenje Agreed on space but I think weight should actually be an advantage over BEV. This FC range extender can reduce the battery size by 60~80 kWh, which can weigh 400~500 kg (using Chevy Bolt and TM3 as references). The fuel cell stack and tanks weight about a third of that (borrowing the Mirai’s figures). In terms of space, I think FC tech still has much room for improvement. In the future it might be no bigger than an ICE & fuel tank range extender setup. However, like my earlier concern with cost, by the time that happens, battery tech might have advanced to negate the need for a range extender. Anyway, just throwing this idea out for fun.

I’ve owned two Jeeps. The first, a Liberty, broke down the first day and required towing. The second, a Patriot, stalled unpredictably. Reviews in the US show poor reliability and quality, as well as low resale value. My advice is to look at other brands. Save yourself from headaches.

The plural of RPM is RPM - for example - And here we are going 30mph with the engine going 2500rpm. You don't say miles per hours just as much as you don't say revolutions per minutes. Stop saying RPMs Thomas. Why isn't reliability every discussed in these videos? Thomas mentions that the PHEV is the better driving experience when compared to the ICE version alone. However there's no mention of the fact that if you buy the PHEV there's far more stuff to go wrong.
@sterpumihai
@sterpumihai 3 жыл бұрын
Well, an electric motor is far more reliable than a petrol engine. And if you use the petrol engine less, then the chance it will fail (ie. due to parts wearing out, heat etc.) will also get smaller. I would say that all in all a hybrid car is more reliable.
@biggityboggityboo8775
@biggityboggityboo8775 3 жыл бұрын
@@sterpumihai That's not the way that hybrids typically work. Especially not cars like the Prius. The two drive trains are all combined into one unit. You don't really have two separate systems. Adding in more parts just means more points of failure. What you are saying is largely true for electric cars with a range extender. Like variants of the the BMW i3 used to be. They only have a single, electric, drive train to the wheels. So are very reliable. But then have a small petrol engine and generator too. When the battery gets low those turn on and the electricity generated runs the motor.
