Did this on my buddy’s 14’ for him a few weeks ago, 4” lift on his. Teraflex instructions and video were awesome, fixed it right up 👍. Hasn’t been an issue on my 2” lifted 17’ but glad it’s an easy fix. Enjoy your vids dude

Thank you for the kind words my friend. It’s a new channel and I’m Fairly new at this. Hopefully the channel grows but if not, it’s ok.... I really enjoy making these videos (and I’m already tinkering with the Jeep anyway - document it). This was a super easy fix. I am one of those “not mechanically inclined” people I mentioned but Jeep makes their parts and components like giant LEGO’s 😂. So easy to turn wrenches on them. I’d rather do it myself in case something goes sideways off the grid, I will know how to save myself. 🤘🏼

Great vid. I don’t have this issue yet, but watched the whole thing so I know what to do should it happen.

Thank you Will. While the initial thought of major complications with the front driveshaft triggered panic (for me), it was refreshing to find out the fix was fairly inexpensive and a very easy DIY 45 min job. I am thankful I am able so address it for other jeepers so they don’t freak out. 👍🏼

Oh man Steve... What a HUGE offer considering JK Land is the best Jeep shop in Georgia (and frankly the South East). I'm honored and will take you up on that for the next video. Thank you for your kind words on my videos. I really enjoy making them.

I had to do same thing. 2.5 “aev lift I got measures out to 3.25” wish I knew before I destroyed my front driveshaft. Got the Tom woods. Lil expensive but I don’t want to have that happen again. Great video.

I was defiantly juggling several options to fix the problem. A new upgraded driveshaft was definitely on the list (and probably overall the right direction) however COVID and pinched my wallets so a quick and inexpensive route to address this became most important. In this case, it was ABOUT THE MONEY. I understand this is a temporary fix but I’m hoping I can get at least 3 years out of it and then, when money is a bit more flexible (or if someone wants to sponsor a video 😉) I’ll beef up my driveshaft. Thank you for the kind words about my video. It’s a fairly new channel and I learning how to make content, but I really enjoy it... so even if the channel doesn’t become the next TrailRecon or AdventureDex, I have fun filming and editing. 🤘🏼

Thank you for subscribing my friend. Its a fairly new channel but I'm trying to grow it. I really enjoy making videos and I love my Jeep, thus Road Rash Off Road is born. I have alot of other videos coming up, not just DIY. Some overlanding trips, trail rides with my club, etc. You're in GA.... hope to see you on one!

How has this held up for you over time? Would you do it again or replace entire drive shaft?
@RoadRashOffRoad
@RoadRashOffRoad Жыл бұрын
It did good as a “quick fix” for cheap… but it did not hold up. It lasted almost 2 years, and it busted again 3 weeks ago. I replaced the entire drive shaft this time with an Adam’s front flex drive shaft (about $550) Would i do it again? I would if I was tight on money or was in a hurry for a fix. If you had the extra money, change the shaft.
@jeepmandan5334
@jeepmandan5334 Жыл бұрын
@@RoadRashOffRoadWhen you updated to the Adams shaft, did you notice any extra vibrations at higher speeds at all or in 4hi? Also, did you have to correct your pinion angle to match the driveshaft? I'm curious if you have the stock front axle housing and if so, did you have enough caster angle left after the pinion adjustment to maintain good ride/steering quality?

Im about to try this in a cold Canadian climate.. i got a cheaper front axl a year ago and hardly used 4x4.... boot is ripped. Any thoughts on using different cv grease?
@RoadRashOffRoad
@RoadRashOffRoad 2 ай бұрын
oh man... what part of Canada? I've never been to Canada but I watch so many overlanding videos in Canada and it is defiantly on my bucket list to explore. I don't know if I'm cut for the Canadian cold so I will need to wait until it's not snow and ice there. I don't know about using different CV grease. I am sure it is well worth looking into. I can tell you that this fix for me was very temporary. It fixed the issue for about 1 yr and then it tore on me again. I ended up replacing it with an Adams front drive shaft that was made for higher lifted vehicles. So I would tell many people now, if you are tight on cash or you just need a quick fix in a hurry, go the route with the Teraflex Rzeppa, however do know that it will likely be a temporary fix for you. If you have the money, I would replace it with an Adams front drive shaft.

This lasted me about 2 years. It was a quick and relatively inexpensive fix, costing me about $130 or so. If finally gave out on me about 2 months ago and i just upgraded the driveshaft to a Adam’s driveshaft, about $600 I’d say if you have the extra money, do the driveshaft. If money is tight, this Rezzeppa will get you on the trails for the next 2 yrs or so.

My driveshaft just started making a popping/grinding sound so I guess I'll be making this repair soon. That was a snap ring , not a c clamp...and you should use snap ring pliers, not needle nose pliers. Wondering why you did not replace the front universal joint while you had the drive shaft out....Curious as to how this product has been holding up since you've replaced it...

You put it on backwards, it goes on the tapered edge not the non-tapered edge.
@RoadRashOffRoad
@RoadRashOffRoad 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your input but I don’t think you are correct sir. Im fairly certain it was installed correctly 👍🏼 None the less, installed it almost a year ago and practically live in 4wheel drive on the weekends and it works flawlessly.

@@RoadRashOffRoad thats crazy because it came off the vehicle with it on the tapered edge. Just did mine this weekend that way and it works fine. Putting it on the other way will roll the non-tapered edge over time. Will take some time though before you have problems.
@RoadRashOffRoad
@RoadRashOffRoad 2 жыл бұрын
@@onedog9652 Yes.... it seems the original has the tapered edge on the other side, however the Teraflex directions specifically say to install it as I did here. Additionally, the "end cap" that slides into the tapered edge is slightly smaller (specifically so it can slide into the tapered edge). It is impossible for the end cap to slide onto the other side. It will not fit. It only goes on one way.

I would dry fit the bearing joint on the shaft first to make sure there is enough clearance for the snap ring, ive installed a few stock replacement joints & thanks to good ole Chinese machining the snap ring would not fit! just something i would recommend to check before you pack the joint full of grease ✌
