Dude, without your video, I'm sure I would have ended up mounting that box in a completely unorthodox location. From those pictographs, I never would have figured out that that box was supposed to go where it does! This is the best video to show where someone would actually plug in the brake controller. Before this video, I could not for the life of me figure where the plug was.Thank you so much. I have an extra plug under the sticky tape that I still don't know what it's for.

While I didn’t install the Mopar brake controller, I must thank you immensely! Without your video I would’ve never found that stupid 4 pin connected to plug the brake controller into. Every other video I found had already removed it from it’s tied up location and just said “it’s up there somewhere”. Thank you so so much!

First, thank you for the video. It definitely made the install go a bit faster. I didn’t have the lighter removal tool but was able to use a couple of small screwdrivers to pop the power outlet out. Everything went well until the mounting of the controller. You failed to mention you need to chant a few magic words while attempting to align the bolts to the holes.

This was super helpful, unfortunately I didn't read the fine print of the brake controller and found it doesn't fit on the standard transmission model, clutch pedal is in the way. I ended up mounting the controller under the dash.

Glad it helped! Its been a while but I do believe it remains unused behind the dash. Im sure you could tap into it for something else if you wanted. Just keep in mind that its only powered when the vehicle is on.

First off, THANK YOU for the video. It made my install much easier than reading the horrible directions! Is there some display on the dash/instrument cluster when the brake is being used? I've used it with my trailer, but didn't notice any indication of it working other than the obvious feel and the indicator lights on the knob. My previous Ram had a dash "screen" for the brake controller. I did not have anything flashed, but would if it would create an indicator on the dash...

So glad that it helped you! I have not seen any indicator for when the brake is being used. I'm with you in being use to bigger trucks with integrated brake controllers and indicators of connection, use, etc. Not sure if the Jeep dealer can 'flash' the system to add that but would love to know that as well!

What happened to the wiring and connector for the lighter outlet? Could the outlet be retained and relocated?

I tucked the wiring connector behind the dash for the time being. Yes, you can retain it and relocate it if you want or repurpose it for something else, although the wiring is fairly short so you may need to extend it to relocate elsewhere. I was going to tap into it to power my Garmin Overlander but decided to go a different route. I have the factory Aux switches on my Gladiator and found out that Jeep provides 6 wires under the dash on the passenger side to power accessories: 4 for the factory Aux switches, 1 that is an ignition source power, and 1 that is a direct battery power. So I direct wired my Garmin to the Ignition source wire instead. Now I have power to my Garmin any time the ignition is on. I hope to have a video out soon with that and other electrical mods I performed.

So, I called the Jeep dealer to get a quote on installing the Mopar brake controller. They said they have to flash the car so that it will show up on the dash and the Jeep will recognize it. Has anyone been to the dealer for an install that could verify that?

Hey Douglas, my experience is that there is no 'flash' needed for this install. Now I do have a factory installed trailer tow package so I do not know if that makes a difference. If your Jeep did not come with a factory installed tow package it, and they are installing a tow package at the dealer, there 'may' be a flash or software update needed. However if you have the factory tow package this system is 100% plug and play.

I have a 2020 Gladiator Rubicon. It does not have the tow package. Does this mean it does not have the wiring connection under the dash and this controller will NOT work?

From my understanding, the wiring connection under the dash is part of the tow package. If your Jeep did not have the tow package from the factory you may not have the necessary connector. Mine did have the factory tow package so I can not say for sure if a non-tow package Jeep would still have it or not, but a trailer brake controller of any kind would be pointless without a tow package of some sort (ie: trailer hitch/tow bar, electrical connection for lights, etc.)

I believe this specific kit is just for the JT Gladiator and JL Wrangler, but Jeep may offer a specific kit for the WK GC. May want to check with your dealer on that.

Question…..I have the same gladiator. Tow package and what not, I bought the controller from the dealership. They told me after install that I have to bring it in for them to do some computer update for it to work, have you actually tested yours to see if it works yet?

I have not tested mine yet and that is the first I have heard that. I guess I better go test it out! I will let you know when I get a chance to hook up a trailer to it and see what happens.

I just had that chance this past weekend to test out the trailer brake controller and it worked great. It is a plug-and-play unit that does not need the dealer to 'activate' it.

I also read that the light for the trailer brake controller comes on automatically and then if there's not an electrical connection to an actual trailer it goes off. I haven't tested it out by plugging in a seven pin, but the light never came on. Was that your experience too? I can push the button in the center, and I can hear the unit underneath the dash clicking, but it doesn't light up

Mine did the same, heard the module clicking but no light, I plugged in my camper, and towed it around, light came on, and it worked perfect. I took it straight to the dealership that told me all that bs, and showed them. The guy was a smart a** about it. Wouldn’t admit he was going to charge me an insanely ridiculous amount of money for nothing. Watch out for these dealerships. I have no faith in them anymore.

The light sometimes comes on, but not always. I got in the Jeep to run down to the store and the light came one (red backlight behind the number at the top of the dial), but 10 minuets later when I left the store it did not come on. From what I recall, when the trailer was connected there was a light on the entire time.
