I stopped at counting after 150 times driving Big Red. Tyre pressures are everything so I usually run @6psi in the XJ. Good on ya giving it a crack.... Definitely need PSC Hydra Steer with the 40's I'm really impressed with your first ever go and something to remember that Big Red is constantly changing from one week to the next. The GU is a beast and if it had been early in the day I'm sure your tyres would have had more grip. Still great driving and even better making the decision to pull winch to save it for another day!!! Loving it and can't wait for your next crack 👊

It’s not about engine power it’s about traction and I still think Jeep got too much air in the tyres.

6:40 they look down a bit, but yeah, probably needed another 10 psi taken out. And it’s hard to find 40’s tread in Australia. Not many options

I went up it in my shorty jeep, only have r/t tyres, there is a fair bit of traction there, as you can see in my vid it climbs up on 3 wheels, in some parts of there vid you can see his tyres are bagging. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZnmxaKuDir5_icUsi=rYXj5f8gPOJt7KzN

Yep, There’s a reason the guys in the states literally run very low single digit pressures on rock. For some reason here in Australia we think 16psi is low.

American here who wheels something very similar. 3100kg rig. Climbing something that heavy and battling gravity my tire pressure can not be 2 psi too much or it won’t climb. My pressure will go up as the day warms up too. I’m not a fan of those BFG tread designs. Cut some zips for more grip. They work good in Moab but get a little dirt in the mix and I see a lot of slippage. If you run trepadors latter be careful with the throttle. They hook up so good with big power metal will fail. I run 9psi a lot on 40 inch toyo mts. 7000 lbs rig

I had a look. Most of the videos you see people driving Big Red is from past years when the rut wasn’t that deep out the wall that tall. Most people winch where you did, especially with comparable rigs. Big respect and your video editor/creative director does a great job with these. Keep ‘em coming.

This is a great example of where selectable lockers make all the difference. There were a few moments in this where being able to turn the rear locker off and leave the front on, would have made "pulling" the front left or right across rocks a lot easier. At about the 23 minute mark had Justin been able to turn the rear locker off, and leave a front locker engaged, it would have pulled the front up to the left, with the open rear differential assisting the turn, rather than oppose what Justin was trying to do. Hands down the simplest way to make lockers amazing is being able to select front, without rear. Having being able to use front locker only has on several occasions, been the way to turn out of a difficult position on a track.

A few others have commented on tyre pressure. To me the Jeep tyres looked like they were too "round". While I cannot run tyres this big, I have learned that heavy, strong aggressive tyres often need very low pressure to get the deformation required for traction in these situations.

If you add throttle when struggling to turn, the power steering engages making it more easy to steer. When the wheels are spinning on a rock or something try turning to the right line and it will be easier. Or just adding throttle should make the wheel easier to turn in general. Is a tough track well driven ❤❤

Defo needed to drop them pressures. Get them tyres to wrap around them rocks and flex enough to get the dirt to fall out. A tip for helping to turn after the front locker has been switched of is to unlock a hub, then reengage once wheel is in direction needed. manual hubs only obviously. This also works if your unlocked in the front. Go drive the rig in circle's unlocked in low 4 on some grass and see how much inside wheel tears up grass. Unlock 1 front hub and do the same, the whole driveline gets bound up which makes it hard to to turn.

It’s not as simple as air down with a Gladiator. There’s a very small sweet spot where airing down too much becomes a hindrance due to belly clearance. My guess is they also don’t have beadlocks so lower than about 12-15 psi with a rig that heavy and you’re flirting with de-beading a tire.

The twins have obviously learned a lot considering how young they are and they have the right demeanor for this. However, they would have learned a ton if they had an experienced spotter guiding them. I get that there's a thrill in learning things on your own the hard way, but sometimes the risks far out way the rewards and this could have ended badly. An experienced rock crawler/spotter would have gotten them through this more smoothly, safer and the lessons would have been something they'd carry for life. Also, the tires on the jeep are too new, BFGs work amazing in the rocks especially once the corners are rounded over on the lugs/knobbys. Can't speak for the Goodyear's as I don't know anyone who rock crawls with them.
