I had the same problem, it is the vent only under heavy rainfall though, the reason it leaked when you sprayed the gap on the hood is because it went under the vent while you sprayed the gap and since you had a continuous stream the water filled your chamber faster than it could leak out the clogged tube, check his tube i bet it’s full of dirt and mud like mine was and I even made the drain hole bigger on the tube by bending it so it won’t get clogged again

Mine did that too. Jason had cleaned that out, but good point.

My YJ leaks are in two places. First is the same as in this video, water enters from poor seal between hood and cowl, then into gaps in large rubber grommets where wiring harness enters interior. This is driver and passenger side. Second, is cracked side panel caulking between the side panel and cowl & between side panel and fender, also on driver and passenger side.

I noticed there's 2 bolts missing on the windshield hinge. If it is that's your leak. The nuts for the bolts broke off on mine and I used nutserts instead.

All, I investigated further because that seal alone just doesn't add up and finally located my leak after 20 years of ownership of my 89 wrangler. Remove the old sealant that runs between the inside edge of where the fender bolts on and the firewall. You will notice a small opening once you remove the sealant where the water is getting in. Clean up the rust and reseal the gap on hole. Leaking problem fixed.

Yep. So I added a strip of foam insulation along the lip where the hood meets the metal where the hinges are and the leak stopped.

Hello from Sweden, I have work with similar leaks on my -93 YJ this winter and what I found was a leak between the fresh air intake box and the body. I removed the vent grill and tape a small rim around each screw hole and then filed the tape-rim with water. It was how I found that leak. To fix it I had to remove the dash and then the fresh air box. I removed the old sealing and then put it back with a sort of glue gasket... You can also tape a rim around the nozzles and fil with water, to isolate every singel leak source. Hope you find the leak, its so annoying with water coming in... :(
@JeepSolid5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Well have to investigate further if it's still leaking.

Same exact area leak for me. I also used tape to isolate it. The seal was rotted. How difficult was it to remove the dash and replace that seal?

its a clogged cabin vent system, inspect the drain hose under hood behind dip stick. its likely plugged up with the crap that falls into the outer hood vent.

I heard if you seal the top up real good you can run the blower fan on high creating a positive pressure area inside the Jeep that won’t let water in.

Well see if that works!

Same here. I taped all the seals on the windshield and cleaned the cowl vent out. Still leaking. I have the hood seal, but it's in terrible shape. Hoping that is it

@oatz18785 жыл бұрын
Correct me if I missed it, but the cowl to hood rubber seal appears to be missing on his Jeep. I’m assuming it wasn’t replaced after painting. There is supposed to be a seal there to stop water from arcing around the cowl and entering through the firewall.
@JeepSolid5 жыл бұрын
Humm.. I'll have to check with him to see if he has a gasket there... Good eye!

Try taping off the hood seam, the cowl vent, the wiper arm holes, w/s frame seal, and w/s gaskets. Start from the top, and flood each seal with steady stream (no hose gun). Remove tape from each seal, one at a time.

That's a good idea. We'll have to replace that seal and test again.

Just pull the drain plugs....you'll be fine... I don't , nor have I ever had, a seal between the hood and the cowl.... mine doesn't leak like that from there... Very odd indeed.... I know there's a hole in the fire wall where the AC condinsation collection hose from inside the jeep goes through the fire wall just above the hump that does not have a seal or grommet and is prone to water and mud coming in when wheeling... but not just rain...but it's too low....below the dash area... Mine leaked (more like poured) at one time until I replaced the window frame (cuz it was rusted through) and the widow frame to cowl seal / gasket... No more...or very little I should say, water gets inside from the dash area...but then again... in Florida always neked....doors off, a bikini top installed, and a tonneau cover.... I just pulled my drain plugs....lol... If I'm in the jeep during a time of rain...it's only because I don't care at that time to be wet... It's actually kinda fun to cruise around in the neked jeep during a spring / summer rain storm or a tropical storm / Cat 1 hurricane.... The looks you get...lol

The leaks were coming from the cowl body panel seams, had to seal the base of the windshield frame below the windowhinge seal and on the sides where the body panels meet above the stamped jeep logo. There was very fine hair line cracks in the seam sealer. Good luck looking for the leaks.Thanks for the video's for our education and entertainment.
