For the hard to reach 10MM, take the bottom one off first, then turn the entire valve counter clockwise to “crack” the top bolt. Stick a metal bar In the port that you disconnect from the EGR tube to turn it. If you break one of the 8MM bolts, no sweat, just take off the EGR tube to remove or replace. Buy a ratcheting 10MM box wrench.

If you are getting a P0406 code use Lucas or Sea Foam injector cleaner in half tank or less of gasoline It might take two treatments of cleaner. It works, engine light off.

From what I can understand, but haven't start the replacement process, you can remove a bolt for the dipstick and us zip tie or the likes to move the dipstick out of the way so you can use a small socket wrench on it. Again, I haven't started this so...

I have bench tested a few old egr valves, they mostly hang up because the block off plunger (steel ) wears the valve body bore (alum ) and the plunger cam locks in oversized worn out bore in the valve body.

Remove inner fender well. Also use heavy duty long zip ties. Place them around drivers side hood hinge a upper auto tranny tube. Pull hard on ties to move tube away from EGR bolt. Then can use 1/4 inch ratchet and 10 mm socket. Will save time and frustration.

i ended up trying a cheap s wrench on the back bolt, stripped it then tried getting my stripped bolt ratchet wrench on it but the trans dipstick tube was in the way n right when i was gonna quit i put a ratchet in the hole n spun the egr valve breaking the bolt free

Remove the tube,remove lower bolt on valve body.put a half inch rod on the hole the tube covers. Grind down a 10mm socket to make it shorter,use a fine tooth ratchet Pull the trans tube to the driver's side and tie it off.push up on the rod in the egr tube,this will break hidden bolt loose,use your new fine tooth ratchet to crank out the bolt,you will truly learn to love your fine tooth 1/4 in rachet.I just cut off the plastic rivets that hold inner fender to flare,pull only the inner fender,usually a few push pins and a bolt,leave fender flare in place.After a few Rand Rs maybe a 1/2 hr job.

If you are continuously driving slow speed EGR valve goes bad. Driving 70 mph seldom having to replace. Like I always say during install use Anti-seize.

You have to take off the passenger side fender then use a long extension and a socket. All bolts are removed through the fender side and not the top of the engine.

Like a 6 inch or 10 inch extension? Also, why a socket vs a box wrench? I was under the impression this thing sits close to the firewall?

I replaced mine. But now hear a putting sound, any suggestions on this fix?
