Alexis' 08 Jeep Wrangler went back into my garage after an EVAP canister went out. It not a hard project at all. You just have to have a little patience with it and everything will work out fine. I hope you glean a few tips from the this video. If you go off-roading, I suggest watching some videos on how to relocate an EVAP canister. It's in a terrible place for off-roading, in my opinion.

I just replaced my canister with the information from this video. I just unscrewed the bracket and used a flathead screwdriver to bend the locking mechanism up, so that I could pull the canister out, then bent the locking mechanism back down into place when I put the new canister on the bracket. Thanks for the video!

Holy crap man not only was this very informative and extremely helpful but damn it was hilarious! You should do start a channel, the moment you said ima take a guess and say it was important I paused it and copied and sent this link to my jeep buddies. That was truth in a jeep especially since your attitude nor voice. You have to be somewhere in the south, Carolinas or close.. thank you so much for the true jeep video instead of all these edited “perfect ” videos. This is what 90% of people go though at the least when tackling projects on there own. Props!

Mathew, just wanted to drop a note of appreciation to you for your video! I had my "check engine" light come on and the code reader led me to the vapor canister. Your video was a TREMENDOUS help in understanding what I was going to face when replacing it. I also read the note from MrHamlin6 about dropping the mounting plate (three 5/8" bolts) and went that route. Because of your video, the swap was a breeze! Thanks for taking the time to post it for the masses!

The white vapor leak detection pump black release clip needs to be pulled towards the pump, then turned counter clockwise for removal. The charcoal canister requires the bracket removed (3 bolts) so the retainer clip can be bent out of the way for easy removal of charcoal canister, slide new one on, then bend clip down to hold canister on, reinstall bracket.

Just replaced mine 10 min ago thanks to this video! Also, yeah, putting it BACK on is a bitch and a half. Wish me luck on the gascap engine light... Found a burned leaking EVAP line, flex taped it shut. Got someone to clear my codes, gascap still stayed on and engine light came back, Smoked the system and didnt see any leaks, hopefully replacing the canister and the sensor is the end of that

Hey gang. I can confirm that you really need to unscrew the bolts that hold the frame that this thing slides onto and just take the whole thing off because the little tab that push down and hold it on and is pushed down pretty far.

Take the bracket off w the 3 bolts. bend the retainer up. slide the canister off. slide the new canister on. Bend the retainer back down. replace 3 bolts. nothing broken, no zip ties needed. Also, if you are doing this change the gasket and pump at the same time; cheap, easy and you are already under there. Dealership might start w your gas tank so beware. all parts including the purge valve under the hood can be swapped out in an hour and about a hundred dollars on amazon. btw, slide is relative to use. If you get dirty it needs a little help sliding :)

For the record, that release button that broke on your evap leak detector, pushes towards the back of the vehicle, NOT the way you pushed it. I know because it broke on me too. I put in a new one and that's when I realized it pushes the other direction to release. Also, as others mentioned, taking off the bracket was the way to go

Almost! You have to remove mount (3 bolts). There is a tab that holds it in place (why it broke when forced off) you bend up to remove. It fits tight anyways so you're probably ok.

My 2014 Wrangler check engine light is on code 0456. I replaced the gas cap with an aftermarket cap. It didn't fix the issue. The dealership replaced the gas cap with a "Jeep" Gas cap, reset the engine light. The engine light came back on about 2 weeks later. I'm thinking it's a hose or the EVAP filter. I'm hoping I can replace it without jacking up my jeep.

Next time if you do it, it is easier to take down the bracket holding the canister, its held on by three bolts, then once you get it out, tap it off with a dead blow hammer, Mine was a Bitch. I got it off and when i put it back on it snapped into place with effort, But it isn't going to come off it is seated very well, That way there is no need for the tie strap you installed. Your video was good other wise, Thanks

Well lets see if I can help you with that. The (HDPE) molded plastic fuel tank you can see setting a little lower than the rear axle on the right side at 1:46. The gas tank sets just forward of the rear axle. Now the Evap canister will be in the same position only on the left side of the jeep and nestled between the drive shaft and the exhaust pipe. Google undercarriage of a 2008 jeep wrangler and you will see the orientation of the canister. It may have a factory shield over it at that location. If it isn't there then it's possible that someone relocated it to a safer location for off roading. There are lots of videos on relocating the canister. Hope that helped and sorry for the mansplaining. That's what I do. lol

@@twalatka I believe you can, but you don't want to do it for long as it will release pollutants into the atmosphere and in some states it may be illegal to drive with it unattached. It's a sealed system and you also don't want to suck something up the line that shouldn't go up there, ie bugs, dirt, water etc. If you do it temporarily you might wrap something around the ends of the lines to act as a filter of some sort. disclaimer.
