Don 't listen to them, they don't know what they're talking about. The gaskets and seals on the body and door are designed and intended to prevent migration of water into the interior in inclement weather conditions. I am dealing with a water migration problem in my Jeep and will replace the gasket across the top lip of the windshield and the upper corners on the body top junction.

This is by far the best video I've watched on Jeep leaks. It was well researched and actually explained cause-and-effect very well. I have a 2014 Jeep Wrangler and about 4 months ago she started leaking. Water comes in on the driver side and the passenger side and Strikes just behind the handle to open the door. I went to a Jeep dealership and basically there water experts recommendation was to replace every seal possible for $600! I couldn't walk away fast enough. I have since bought campers tape at Napa and have experimented and have still not corrected my problem. I'm going to watch your video a couple more times and see if I can find the right spot to put that piece of campers tape. The issue is sometimes you can have a leak and the cause could be three different areas and you have to find out which one it is. Again excellent job. Thanks for this post.

Thanks for watching James! Keep experimenting with the weatherstripping in different places, it took me quite a while to locate my problem but when I found it, what a great feeling. You will get it. The tape is good for process of elimination.

I have tried the fix where you run weather stripping down the frame and around the Button seal and it worked for about 3 weeks but the weather stripping flattened out causing the water to run over it and the leak started again. Thanks for posting this. I will give this method a try. Seems a lot easier than trying to line up 6 feet of weather stripping without it tangling and sticking to itself.

I have this exact problem on my passenger side. I will give it a shot and see what happens. One other option in terms of carpet is to go with a product called BedRug or BedTread. It is basically carpet that doesn't mildew so if you cant stop the leaks, this is the next best option. They make a kit that covers the entire Jeep so you dont really have to worry about getting rained on ever again.

Be sure all your rubbers are clean and debris fee. Crud builds up under the ragtop frame and makes for a less than smooth seal. Treat with UV rubber replenisher or conditioner and leave unlatched for an hour or so to remove any memory from compressing against the crud layer. Use soapy bleach water to clean all gaskets for factory fresh seal

No issues to remove it at any time. This NAPA tape I used is fairly easy to remove if necessary, and won't leave much residue behind. Doesn't affect the paint or existing seals or anything--no adverse effects. If there is any bit of adhesive residue left behind a wet towel or some Goo Gone will remove it quickly.

Fantastic video - I learned a lot. Now, any ideas about a leak down the A pilar? Water comes from underneath the plastic cover at the windshield, then down to the plastic A pilar cover. Then to the dash, and carpet. This Jeep is brand new - noticed the problem 2 days after purchase. I tried to isolate the leak, by taping the roof / windshield frame joint and gently hosing the roof and door. Pulled the tape back from the door, hosed (gently) the top and recreated the A pilar leak. Already have an appointment with the dealer, but wanted to at least give them a limited area to concentrate on - or better yet, fix it myself. All help much appreciated.
@Ricks4WD7 жыл бұрын
Hard top or soft top? I only have a soft top--when new I had the windshield header gasket leaking (sort of in the way you describe), and they replaced the windshield header gasket under warranty. If it is a soft top, it could also be coming from the joint between the windshield and the plastic door surround--I've had to use this tape in the same area as well--although it sounds like you have already tried to diagnose in this same area. If it is a hardtop, sorry I will be useless to help! Good luck!

If you mean the windshield, I have never lowered the windshield on the JK so it hasn't been a issue. It is an extensive process on the JK. However, all you would need to do is reapply the weatherstripping in the same spot. The other windows in a JK don't have an effect on this fix.

The F15 and F18 aircraft use a FIP seal (form in place) seal on the avionics bay doors to seal out the water. The soft rubber gasket is put on the door frame perimeter and then the door is closed shut and locked down. The gasket then conforms to the contour of the surfaces require sealing. The seal is then tested under water pressure for the integrity of the sealing.

Where do you buy this tape?
@alexsimon9157 жыл бұрын
Just bought my first JK..... haven't rained and didn't wash it yet but after seeing so many people complaining about, no doubt design flaws and quality control I'm beginning to think perhaps I made a mistake.... Good thing I'm in CA and it hardly ever rains here.

Would a good of silicone sealant work?
@Ricks4WD5 жыл бұрын
Not sure. Perhaps, although I've found the foam weatherstripping is easier to apply and it conforms to the door seal really well. It's also easy to replace if need be.

What is that front gasket with the rivet thru it called. Mine has space behind it and I can't get it flush with the car and am trying to replace it. I have filled it with silicon but it still gets by.

Rhino is great stuff and a good replacement for the carpet! I have also used Monstaliner with good results, and have seen people spray in Raptor Liner as well--that looks and performs really great.

Yeah, I did that to my old TJ. No regrets. It was great at the carwash too -- step 1) spray outside. step 2) spray inside. drive until dry.

I just bought a brand new 2021 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon EcoDiesel hardtop. It has only 580 kms (350 miles) on it. Yesterday, there was over an inch of water in the driver's winter floor mat. Also, the passenger and rear mats are soaked as well! I thought that I might have left the driver's door ajar, but that doesn't account for the passenger side. Also, there is a hump under the front seats, so I am curious how the water got into the rear carpet. I am booked into the dealership on Wednesday to get it leak checked, but after seeing all the leak problems, I am skeptical that they will fix the problem. After paying $91,000.00 Canadian for it, I am pretty choked! I have never had the hardtops off since I bought it. I can't believe that Jeep would not have fixed this issue years ago. Perhaps it is time for a class action lawsuit?
@Ricks4WD3 жыл бұрын
That's the first I have heard of the JL/JT leaking like that. That's unfortunate. It almost sounds like the hardtop wasn't properly installed or sealed from the factory.

I do have water coming in on the driver side floor right where yours was, but this didnt seem to fix it? I can see it coming down the inside there just as you described, was hoping this would solve my issue
@Ricks4WD4 жыл бұрын
You may have to play with the position of the weatherstripping. It's possible that it's not leaking from the same place as mine, and you may need to experiment with the tape.
@Nbohon214 жыл бұрын
@@Ricks4WD Thanks! ill keep maneuvering it, i can see the water coming down the side there, and then it does pool just as you described on the floor
@Ricks4WD4 жыл бұрын
It took me quite a while of experimenting to find my leak. Don't be afraid to put way more weatherstripping all over the place on the door frame. You can always remove the stuff that didn't work. Also, check the seal on the door itself, to make sure it hasn't fallen out of position.

@@Nbohon21 Did you get it fixed?
@Nbohon213 жыл бұрын
@@miloo318 yes, my leak was on the front top of my jeep where the front seal and freedom top meet, the padding was warped so I put campers tape and it fixed my issues! I tried about everything Possible.

Is there a possibility of the rubber seal around the door frame failing? I feel/see water dripping down from the top of my door jam.
@Ricks4WD4 жыл бұрын
Maybe, but it might be that the door isn't sealing properly against the top. If you have a soft top, open the top and make sure the seals near to door are in good condition. You can test and diagnose it with the foam tape in different positions. If you have a hardtop, the removable panel might not be sealing correctly. Try removing and replacing it, paying attention to the condition of the seals as you replace it. Good luck!
@Childlessnotbychoicepodcast4 жыл бұрын
Rick Bernotas I have a soft top. And yes, I will definitely try the tape and these suggestions. Thank you!
@Ricks4WD4 жыл бұрын
With the soft top, also check that the seals aren't folded back on themselves when you pop the top and open the door. Don't be fearful of adding a bunch of foam tape on top of the plastic door frame where the soft top sits... That can be a place where water can come in as well.
@Childlessnotbychoicepodcast4 жыл бұрын
Rick Bernotas OK, will do that today between rain drops. My Jeep is currently flooded on the drivers side, quite damp on the passenger side. This has been a great help. Thank you so much.

Rick I have this very same problem on my 2015 JKU. I am curious about a couple things. The button on the gasket, Is it removeable without damaging it so I can remove the old foam stripping behind the gasket? Do the Jeeps come from the factory with this foam behind the gasket? I believe you mentioned you have replaced the weather stripping on other parts of the jeep top, where did you get it and how's it holding up VS dealership original?
@Ricks4WD3 жыл бұрын
Not sure if it is removable without damaging it. You don't need to remove it to fix this. I'm just using Napa Camper Shell tape weatherstrip (linked in description) and you only need to apply a small piece of it over the button and gasket. It holds up, but I usually need to reapply it about once a year. ,👍😎

@@Ricks4WD Thanks for the fast response. I have the stripping and I tried to zoom in to your gasket location to see if you had old foam which I didnt see so I was thinking maybe I should get rid of the old foam. Thanks Again!

I probably cleaned some junk out of there originally, but I definitely never removed the gasket.

Do you have a closer up on where you put the foam?
@Ricks4WD7 жыл бұрын
I don't have anything closer up, but just align it with the top of that windshield seal in the door frame, and run it all the way down the seal. The important part is to cover up that circular fastener in the seal with the weatherstrip tape, so the door seal can seal smoothly over it.
