I purchased a used 2010 jku Rubicon, in Colorado. Then I took it into the local dealership in NM to get it checked for recalls, and the clock spring was a recall item. They took it to the shop, and it came back out in an hour, all no charge.

Great video Colt. FYI turn the steering wheel lock to lock and back to center on start for relearn. This will get the computer to acquire new data to reset dash lights. If you should continue to have issues check the steering angle with a scanner. The steering angle has to be 0 degrees or system will not function correctly. If angle is off adjust draglink. I hope this helps someone it took me months of research to fix my JKU.

Colt, another great video! You’d be the perfect guy to do a video or a series that I think would be very useful. For several vehicles, as you have time, share what usually breaks and what to upgrade before off roading. I drive a Tundra Crewmax, and I want to come to Utah for mild off road vacation. What breaks? What should I check and upgrade? Just a thought, I appreciate all you do, thanks.
@sidepass8 ай бұрын
Had a clock spring on a Tundra go out. About $50 on ebay and 11/2 hrs of my time and saved a ton of money. Grounding out the system keeps a little stored juice from possibly setting off the air bag which could ruin your day in a big way.

Great video. One thing I'd add in terms of tools to pick up would be a good OBDII reader. As you point out, there's nothing worse than going to the dealer and getting blown off because you can't replicate an issue. Being able to run a scan and pull codes can be a huge help. Some of the newer readers tie to phone apps that will include common solutions for various codes, which can be very welcome in helping someone make the determination to DIY or bring it to a shop.

Interesting that this is the default fix. On Land Rover Freelanders (LR2? In US) we talk about the 'Three Amigos'. When the ABS, TC and HDC cone on together. It is almost always an ABS sensor that has lost signal. Clock spring would be later in the diag. My son is a mechanic and he had an issue with ABS etc coming on on a Mitsubishi. Turns out the wheel bearing replacement wasn't quite correct and the ABS sensor was drifting in and out giving odd signals. Thanks for the good work and hope the channel grows. Cheers from the UK.
@coltbuildsit8 ай бұрын
If it happened to kick the lights on when I was doing anything else but turning then I'd have looked into the speed and abs sensors for sure.
@GavinEarnshaw8 ай бұрын
@@coltbuildsit ah, of course, missed the steering aspect being the obvious call (Doh!) 🙂 Just with Land Rovers and their famous reliability, using a dumb plastic sleeve for the abs sensor means a stray stick and Three Amigos 🤢... We don't get many proper Jeeps over here.

Something people never think of when they are messing with their steering. Not securing the steering wheel to prevent the clock spring from getting out of alignment by either overwinding it or under winding it. Either can cause it to short out.

Which leads to Baxter Performance. Tell us what you know. Please.
