What a difference 2.5" makes! (that's what she said!) That thing looks like a beat now. Great wheel choice, too. Also, great install video! A lot of times I find these boring to watch, or lacking information. Yours was just right, informative enough to get the whole scope of the job without feeling dragged out. Good tips on using the duct tape to hold the nut to the wrench, and turning the steering wheel to align the track bar. I've used both in the past when working on my old ZJ. Also, if tape isn't handy, grease will work, and even I've even used a piece of gum, haha. Only thing I would really do differently is put anti-seize on EVERY SINGLE BOLT that I removed/replaced. Maybe not so important where you live, but in New England where I am it could mean the difference between getting the bolt out trouble free next time, or breaking it. I use that stuff on EVERYTHING.

@@wayalifeI know what you mean. Love your videos btw. I'm curious how your KMC wheels and 37" tires are doing? I was looking at getting the same style wheels and have 35's at the moment but might step up to 37's in the future. I'm a little afraid of the offset being too small and the tires rubbing. They sell the XD232 but the 3.5" offset seems like it will make the tires stick out more than I might like. Brad from Trail Recon is using KMC's with that offset and they don't look too bad in his videos on his JK. Do you have any issues with rubbing? It seems the smaller back spacing is more common than the 4.75". Any comments are greatly appreciated!
@wayalife3 жыл бұрын
@@supersportimpalass I installed these on a JL Rubicon and NOT a JK. That means my axles are 68" wide and that's a whole 2.5" wider than a JK. It is because of this that I purposefully went with these wheels as I WANTED more back spacing and knew I would NOT have rubbing issues. Heck, on a JK, factory wheels have 6.25" of back spacing and you can still clear most 37's with 4"-4.5" of back spacing. While less back spacing can help prevent rubbing with big tires, it WILL cause things like your ball joints and unit bearings to fail prematurely and will negatively affect your scrub radius. Not really that big of of a deal I suppose but I'm just trying to provide factual information rather than just tell you what wheels to get.
@supersportimpalass3 жыл бұрын
@@wayalife I did know they went on a JL but didn't realize the axles are that much wider than the JK. I should have researched that info but assumed they were the same. My current wheels are 17x9 with a 4.5 backspace so a 1/4 difference isn't going to make any difference with the same size tire but definitely will if I go up to 37's. Thanks again for the great info and videos!

You’ve given the most detailed install on the JL and given great impressions on the vehicle before the lift. I’m probably jumping the gun but what are your thoughts on road/offroad with the lift, 37” tires and beadlocks? Also do you feel a need to regear? I see no one has advanced that idea as yet and do you think there will be a need to replace driveshafts ball joints etc. ? Thanx
@wayalife6 жыл бұрын
I appreciate it. Regarding our new 37's, they are load range E and are firmer than the factory tires which were load range C. I really want to run them at a lower psi to soften things up but that causes the TPMS warning light to come on. Off road, these Cooper STT Pros hook up amazingly well especially on the rocks. So far, I have not felt a need to regear and this after driving out to Moab and wheeling there. As far as drive shafts and ball joints go, I think it's too soon to say when that will be needed.

I’m sure you have watch the new JL being built at the factory and all. My question is when they deck the body to the completed chassis, it now has most of its weight installed. Do you think they do a final torque on the track bar bushings and control arms, and if they don’t maybe that’s a failure new owners are having with maybe death wobble and other erratic suspension problems. Should the dealer loosen up all those components and re torque to factory specifications

For me the rear shocks look like crap. Get longer shocks. But I really like that you switched out control arms, but I don't understand not recommending an alignment, to fix camber and caster.
@wayalife6 жыл бұрын
Not sure what there's to get. Jeeps come with solid front axles and there is no camber to adjust. Caster is super easy to do yourself and at home for free and ONLY IF you have adjustable control arms. Toe will not change due to the tie rod not being connected to the drag link. Aside from recentering your steering wheel, there really isn't much a shop can do aside from taking your money.

We live in a desert and probably could have gotten away with not using any antiseize on anything. That being said, the control arms can be a pain to work on in the future and being that they were new and off the Jeep, adding some now seemed like a good idea.

Awesome video. Off topic but will you be changing gears in the diffs and if so what will you be installing? Thanks.
@wayalife6 жыл бұрын
To the best of my knowledge, there are no gears available at this time. That being said, the 8-speed auto does a great job of pushing these 37's and if we do re-gear, we'll most likely go with a lower ratio than what we ran on our JK's. On our JK's, 5.13's is what we would have wanted with 37's but 4.88 might be a better fit with the JL. I think we'll need to do more testing before I could say for sure.

Why is the Metalcloak 2.5” require front driveshaft does this Evo 2.5” require new driveshaft ?
@wayalife4 жыл бұрын
Probably because their lift yields way more lift than 2.5". That's typical with most spring lifts and the extra height will put your front driveshaft CV boot in a constant state of pinch. Over time, this will cause it to fail sooner than later. This EVO lift is just a spacer lift and so, you will get exactly 2.5" of lift out of it. I should note though that spacer lifts are just a more affordable way to get a lift and not necessarily better way.

Unless you're wanting to go bigger, there's no need for a new suspension lift. A Stock Rubicon suspension is great! Most companies try to use it as a standard and work hard to get close to it. But, if you're asking in regards to a coil spacer lift like this, the lift will compromise the quality of your ride.

Pardon me, but would you know / describe what kind of bolt is used for the trackbar, specifically, the one connected to the chassis? I've heard (from Allpar) that in the JK, the one they used was a threaded bolt which did not do wonders for the bushing and the chassis, and was also not of the correct size. Did this change in the JL?
@wayalife6 жыл бұрын
LOL!! There are over 2 MILLION JK's on the road today. If Jeep really were using the wrong kind of bolts for the track bar, I would think you'd be hearing a lot more about it instead of just on an online magazine. Think about this for a second - when you hold a glass of water in your hand, NO bolts are required to keep it from falling, why is that?

It's more of a forum for owners than an "online magazine" as you put it, and quite a few owners there said one of the easier mods to help stave off death wobble is to replace that bolt with a smooth one. As to why we don't hear much about it, same reason the common person doesn't hear much about death wobble - it only happens in the most extreme of cases. To your latter question, I believe the answer is friction. Now, about my question, how are the trackbar bolts on the JL, vs the JK?

I’m gonna be buying my first Wrangler in September. Is a 2 1/2 lift with shocks gonna run into the same rubbing issues?
@wayalife6 жыл бұрын
It will if you run 37" tires.
@RogerJG216 жыл бұрын
Hi is this a 2.5" lift with 17" rims and 35" tires?

What's the difference between the black shocks and the red shocks on the J l's Factory
@wayalife Жыл бұрын
The black shocks are what come standard on non-Rubicon Wranglers. The red ones come on Rubicon. The pressure and valving on the reds are a bit firmer.

@Wayalife what one will ride better on road and off road and What about Fox shocks are rough country
@wayalife Жыл бұрын
Ride quality is 100% subjective. What I like, you may not and vice versa. That said, the Rubicon shocks were made for the Rubicon coils and they offer a firmer ride. Maybe, more sports car like. The non-Rubicon shocks are made for softer coils and they offer more of a plush ride but less responsive off road. Fox shocks are well made shocks and Rough Country offers just an average but neither by themselves are made specifically for the coils on your Jeep.

@Wayalife Sahara 4XE has black shocks does a red shocks in prove all Ride capabilities And as the stock shocks on the Jeep J l's are they mono Our Twin tube And does the mono shocks improve all Performance
@wayalife Жыл бұрын
@@jamieeisenhower1560 I don't know if I'd say that the red shocks "improve" things, just that they offer a firmer ride. Aftermarket monotube shocks will just do a much better job of preventing fade when driving hard and fast across the desert. The downside to them is that they're typically firmer on pavement. But, a lot of people prefer that kind of ride.

I know you wheel hard. How capable would you say this jeep is at this stage (without any other major mods)? Also, 37s on the stock tire carrier ok with the JL? How does it drive at Highway speeds? Considering getting back into jeep but dont want to break the bank on aftermarket stuff.
@wayalife6 жыл бұрын
Hard to say how capable it is until we get a chance to push it to it's limits. We'll post up what we find :) As far as the tire carrier goes, no, it will not fit with the factory bumper unless you install some kind of riser bracket. So far, I've driven this thing at 85 MPH - it's great.

Like your build and they way u install film and explains are awesome. Why u choose evo 2.5 lift or rubber spacer lift thats kinda cheap. I got wrangler jl wanna put rubicon’s lift kit with 2.5 lift is it possible?
@wayalife3 жыл бұрын
It was the only thing available at the time. We are now running coilovers. And yes, you can run a 2.5" lift.
@daljindersandhu27283 жыл бұрын
But i like the the evo better because it mounted lwith frame its not loose or something don’t need to worry with evo. And yes still need to check your rest of videos for sure. Just had question no one wanna talk about it that if i take rubicon lift and add spacer lift it will be a good idea?

How do you know what to adjust your control arms too?
@wayalife4 жыл бұрын
With a lift this small, you can pretty much set them to what stock length is and call it a day. Any additional adjustment to the lower arms would be minimal at most, maybe 1/4". Uppers need to be set as needed for proper caster up front and proper pinion angle in the rear.
