In my opinion if your above 2.5” of lift then you need an aftermarket front driveshaft. At 3.5” of lift you want both. Stock won’t last at those heights, even for just on road driving. Just my opinion. But honestly I agree with 99% of everything else you say. I do have a suggestion for your videos. More visuals. I know some things might be hard. For this one if you were able to get some buddies that had various lift heights to get visuals I feel like it would have helped more. I know you can really only show what you have, but I just think more visuals and less just talking about things would help. Good stuff though Dan, keep it up!

Thanks Alex. This video would have definitely been better with that stuff. I usually have more visuals. But I didn’t have the opportunity here. Thanks for the input! Keep it coming!

Like the channel. Good info. Currently changing out the Mopar/Teraflex 3” kit. Worst purchase I have ever made.

Looking to upgrade to a 3.5 in .....do i need the shocks or can i get it done without them
@WarPaintOffroad
@WarPaintOffroad Ай бұрын
Depends on the lift you have now. But generally you most likely need to upgrade shocks.

I got a '19 Jeep JL Rubicon on 2.5 in lift with 37's. Rides well and does well in all terrains I've been in out in the PNW. Do you have a video on JK dana 44's vs JL dana 44's?
@WarPaintOffroad
@WarPaintOffroad Жыл бұрын
I don’t. But I’ll tell you..the JL 44 is a very well built axle. Much stronger than a jk Dana 44. The only issue and weakness is the front axle disconnect. But if you can eliminate that..then I would argues it’s every bit as strong as a jk Dana 44 axle with truss, gussets, etc…but in factory form. The wheel bearings are still what they are. Same with ball joints. The axle shafts are still under sized for a 40. But they are a big improvement.

The issue I have is the original owner had a lift kit (unknown height and kit) that is causing violent movement to either side when hitting bumps. I need to go back to stock. Without any information from the owner how do I tell what is on this thing? I do see massive stem protruding form the shock and it say Rough Country Premium on the show cylinder.

Send me an email, you can find that on my website. Or send me a private message on Instagram. I have some places that you can measure from to determine your height. I can probably also talk to you through and help you figure out what your problem is.

I've had expensive live kits and still got sag a year later.
@WarPaintOffroad
@WarPaintOffroad 2 ай бұрын
Well all kits settle. That’s normal. But I hat I was talking about is a 3 inch lift sagging 2 foot niches in 6 months. That shouldn’t happen but does with cheap lifts.

Would a 2.5" budget boost be good enough for running 35" tires and moderate off roading? Thanks
@WarPaintOffroad
@WarPaintOffroad 6 ай бұрын
Depends on what you are calling “moderate”. But if you can do it on 35’s…a 2.5 will be fine!

I have watched a few of your videos. Long story short I’m needing a best cheaper option. Any suggestions? I drive it most days 35in tires are all I’m going to run and I do plan on moderate trails a few times a year. Sticking with stock axles. There’s a lot on the market and info but I’d like to know what you’d recommend. Thank you either way.

I’m sorry I didn’t see this sooner. What part of the country is this in? Tbh, a cheaper option for a kit would be something like JKS. But you could get rock krawler springs, Bilstein 5100 shocks, some track bar brackets and brake line relocation brackets and be fine. Rough Country is tempting, but it’s a problem when you use their springs and shocks. Their springs are awful. And their shocks are rough and don’t last. So if you wind up with a kit from them do a 2.5 kit with spacers to keep the factory springs, and then buy your own shocks.

Midwest. And thank you I’ll look into those parts. I did get front relocation brackets for my control arms.

OK, so I’m wanting to do a lift kit on my 2015 JK unlimited sport looking to improve ride quality and extend over landing capabilities thinking about doing a 2 1/2 lift what would you suggest if you had to pick a specific brand or set up is there anything that would be better than something else? I am a first time 4 x 4 enthusiast so I don’t know much about it other than what I’ve watched so far on your channel and others was considering doing-a terraflex 2 1/2 inch lift kit, but not wanting to spend more than 2000, this is also a daily driver for me.

Great question. A 2.5 is perfect and will be relatively inexpensive. When you go higher (like a 3.5) you have to do many other things you don’t at a 2.5. With that said, I’d look into Rock Krawler springs and pair them with Bilstein 5100 shocks. They work very well together.

Does the exhaust spacer help at all with the drive shaft needing to be replaced?
@WarPaintOffroad
@WarPaintOffroad Жыл бұрын
So the exhaust spacer will give you more clearance for sure. Great question. But what it doesn’t do is help you align the front end properly for good drive-ability and have a good drive shaft angle. You MIGHT be able to get away with it on the street for some time. But if you wheel and flex it, the front drive shaft time is limited.
@jdawg2474
@jdawg2474 Жыл бұрын
@WarPaintOffroad I will be installing adjustable control arms and the lift kit says the exhaust spacer kit is required for 3.5" or more lift. But you're saying the front drive shaft will still need replacing?

How do you know if my 2014 has been lifted ? Thank you
@WarPaintOffroad
@WarPaintOffroad Жыл бұрын
Great question. So you can measure. If you go to the spring on the front axle and measure from the top of the spring perch on the axle (where the bottom of the spring sits) to the flange on the spring perch in the frame (not all the way up inside where the top of the spring sits, but the flat spot as that upper spring. Bucket flares out) it will be 9.5 inches or just less if it is stock. It’s hard to explain where exactly to measure. If you message me on Instagram I can send you a photo to better explain.

My jeep tj rides terrible....4 lift does not absorb bumps..
@WarPaintOffroad
@WarPaintOffroad Жыл бұрын
It’s because you are still on short arms. The angle of your control arms is terrible with you go that high without going long arms. The shocks you have would probably make it better. But it won’t be good until you go long arms AND have good shocks.
@ipdjbt
@ipdjbt 2 жыл бұрын
You lost me at your mid arm explanation. Mid arms are exactly how they are described, mid length.
@WarPaintOffroad
@WarPaintOffroad 2 жыл бұрын
Yes sir. The thought process is spot on. But “mid arms” don’t exist. You can either buy short arms, slightly adjustable short arms, or long arms. No one sells mid arms. Where the term originated is on the forums. When the jk was first released people were mostly very happy with the things Jeep changed from the prior model, the TJ. One of those things was longer control arms. So being that they aren’t long arms, but we’re longer than the short arms on the TJ, people on forums sometimes referred to them as “mid arms”. But you can’t compare one model vehicles parts to another like that. Tj arms would never work on a jk and jk arms won’t bolt up to a tj. So for a jk…they are short arms or long arms.
