Jeep Patriot 2009 Starter Removal & Installation

In this video, I show how removed and install the starter on my Jeep Patriot. Often after many years, the copper connection between the electrical motor and the solenoid is corroded. I decided to take the time to remove, inspect, clean and reinstall the starter.

Nice details. Check out the relay box at the driver side of the fog lights, it might not be the starter, because the genius jeep engineers like to have not weather proofed relay boxes, and the green monster will get you

To avoid battery, starter and alternator issues. Maintain your battery by keeping lights and radio off while the engine isn't running. (THIS KNOWLEDGE IS FOR VEHICLE OWNERS THAT KNOW THEIR BATTERY IS WEAK AND GOING BAD. If you suspect a low battery and you cannot charge it or it will not accept a charge, try avoiding jump starting the vehicle multiple times, the surge of electricity from jumpstarting is known to damage the starter solenoid and alternator voltage regulator. I've seen people also try and start an engine with a low battery several times and damage the starter solenoid switch. If the engine doesn't turn over due to a weak battery do not continue trying to start your engine, save yourself an even more expensive Bill 💸💸💸💸 by just simply replacing the faulty battery with a known good or new one

Also, you could have tested the battery on the ground with the cables, simply by cables and adding a constant 12v power wire to the ignition pole on the starter solenoid, as soon as starter kicked bucked and the starter gear turned fast then you'd know the starter was good. Of course you could have saved any headache or stress by using a digital multi meter to test the voltage at the battery posts, then just after the battery terminals to test for any voltage loss. Then set the digital multi meter in a clear view while connected to the battery, turn the ignition to start and observe the voltage on the meter, it should drop from 12.4v to no less than 10v if lower than 10v battery has corrosion on the lead plates inside and needs to be replaced with a new battery. If voltage does not change from 12.4v then suspect a faulty starter solenoid.

One basic model of starter was installed in the Jeep Patriots from 2006 to 2017. If you have a CVT, the replacement is the same as my 2009. If you have a 6-speed automatic transmission, I did not work on this model but the basic procedure should be similar since the engine and the starter were the same.
