Great video, very helpful. How much height is added to the roof of the jeep? I’m worried about fitting in my garage if I add a rack with too much added height. Thanks

It is definitely possible to build it on the jeep. Actually I'd recommend it. Otherwise you're forcing a rigid pre-built frame onto your chassis which can put dents in things and warp stuff. Also buy a roll of some sort of semi rigid and very dense length of truck cabin sealer strip. Mark where your brackets will go on the jeep and the apply foam wherever those brackets won't be, then let the factory ones do their job against those brackets.

the front of the (front) lights measure 3 in x 3 in. They are mounted to the bottom slot. And actually this is the "lighted" version of this rack, so it came with all the lights you see in the video, already mounted. Each of the lights (front and side) pull about 1.25 amps each. In my upcoming video I mount an AUXBEAM switch control panel where I will be able to control all the lights from the cab with one panel controller. I want to be able to switch the front, left and right sides independently. The AUXBEAM (and others) have amp limitations on their slots where you connect your lights, so I can't use any of the 5 amp fuse positions, I have to use the 10 amp position (should have 20-25% more amp rating in your fuse than the actual load). I am using a clamp on DC amp meter to see how many amps each group of lights are pulling... these meters are cheap on amazon and really handy. Hope this helps, let me know if you have more questions. Question? I did not see foam insulation that came with my roof rack kit. What would you suggest in using?

Yes, I did not install mine. But I think it's for use underneath the top, in between the brackets that stick out the side. The brackets lift the top up off the edge of the tub, and if you don't fill in the gaps air can come in and out easily. So just stick it along the top of the tub edge in between the brackets so that the top has a more even surface to sit on, and will make a good air seal

I'm having a lot of trouble getting my brackets between the tub and the hard top. I have them in place, but the top won't sink into place like it normally does. Did you have this problem?

I did not. My top is pretty dang heavy, so it sandwiched the brackets between the top and the tub very firmly. Maybe try loosening the top at the front, maybe also the top needs to be spread apart a bit at the rear so The edges will fall over the tub, also you could take the brackets out, and just make sure it seats on its own. Without seeing it, I'm not sure what else to tell you. Sorry about that

@@ljvrdll I hear what you're asking, the rooftop tents I've seen typically mount to a roof rack with round bars. So my plan was to just fabricate some brackets to fit whatever tent I bought. Again, that doesn't help you. But it has held up well, We have had it on several four-wheeling trips, none of the bolts loosen, it never hits the top or wiggles around. I love the lights on it the most

I do like it, and no problem so far. Just like any roof rack, if it's windy, you can feel it in the vehicle a bit, especially in this lifted Jeep, it sways a bit more. It holds my gear without any problems. What I like best about it though is all the lights, I've got a video coming up hopefully in the next week or two where I'm showing how well all the lights work . It will include the auxbeam switch control installation, It was a lot of work, but it is so cool now, I really like that part of it. Airing up in the dark, cooking a meal out the back of the Jeep in the dark, is not a big deal now, it's actually kind of fun! Hey thanks for watching, and good luck with yours 👍
