If you train for safety and practice safety it becomes instinct. Instincts are what keeps us alive and unhurt in dicey situations where we may have to get creative to get something done. The basic rules of safety and physics still apply. As he said about wheelin', stuff happens. It's usually a surprise when it does.

Paul has a small cheap harbor freight winch strung with a freedom rope so the size of the winch has nothing to do with it knowing how to get the most power from what you have is more important than size I had to use a 2000 lb ATV winch and a couple of 2000 lb come alongs once to get my 77 Chevy on 37s out of a clay pit had to use every snatchblock we could rally up and make small pulls I wish we'd have had a yankum rope back then I'm sure my 83 on 40s with a 454 would've popped it right out as we broke the suction and almost had it out with a chain tug that snapped my drop hitch luckily with a couple tires between chains they kept the chains from flying hard enough to damage anything just made us realize that wasn't a good idea to try again good thing I wasn't letting her eat

That Cherokee held up pretty good to a drop in the creek. I've been there and seen similar things. Stuff happens. You may be looking out for one thing and miss the other. Jeep guy has a pretty cool rig. Looks to be setup pretty good. Glad you got him out.

I'm watching all the antics going on with the wheelin' off road & chuckle at how little of that basic sense seems available in these city slickers. I was gimpin' 'round in a knee brace last week & sliced a truck tire while at a Tractor Supply...it was like everyone disappeared as soon as it happened! Granted I took care of business on my own, though sometimes I think just having someone to shoot the shit with can help a sucky afternoon suck less.
