Thanks again! This is the number one fix I need to do on my 01 TJ. Greatly appreciated! My Jeep has a big aftermarket horn push button mounted on the dash next to the ignition switch from the previous owner. 🙄

This is fantastic. Someone said after disconnecting black cable from battery to wait 15 min for charge to dissipate. Is this pretty much the same for a 99 jeep cherokee? I just purchased one, and my horn, radio, high beams, cruise control are non-working. 😂😅

I guess the same theory would apply but I can't say that we wait a prescribed amount of time. I figure if you disconnect the battery first, there is plenty of time disassembling non electrical items that it's not a problem.

Thanks for the great video on clockspring replacement

Thank-you. This is so helpful. Fair warning. Autozine will tell you it has the correct Airbag Clockspring. It may not. Make sure yours Does or Does Not need the green connection. My 99 Jeep XJ needs it, and the clcokspring autozone said fits, doesn't have it. Do ur due diligence and open it up, remove the airbag and check first. 😅

My Horn started blowing while sitting on my XJ. Had to disconnect the fuse to the horn. Replaced the clock spring and the horn now works as it should. Internet searches were very vague on the cause but it was the clock spring.

I think all that's in the ribbon so maybe the wear caused it to short out on another circuit would be my guess.

The problem with mine is the horn stays on. I had to pull the relay out to stop it. I have a clockspring on order from RockAuto.

I have a 97 TJ without cruise and my steering column is making a plastic grinding noise. It's not the rubber boot at the firewall. I have no symptoms, turn signals work, no dash lights, no cruise to stop working. Could this be my issue, or could it just be some dirt/debris somewhere in there? If it is the clock spring and it fails, will it leave me stranded? Thanks!

Btw. Is compressed air advisable to use to clean that area?
@TabooCustoms Жыл бұрын
I think you could, I wouldnt imagine that it would set the air bag off or really damage anything. Only thing you might want to be careful about is moisture in your compressed air. Dont want to blow water down in there.

My 02 wrangler's steering wheel will not come off 😂 so the air bag light will stay

Using a steering wheel puller it won't come off? You can borrow one at most major auto stores.

The threads stripped eventually in the steering wheel after so many attempts with a steering wheel puller. And we are in South Africa so parts are getting really hard to find.

An old friend of mine once said, "The most important part of any car is the nut holding the steering wheel." 🤣 Anyone about to undertake this on their TJ or XJ, it might help to mark the steering wheel's position on the steering shaft before removal. Use a marker, or scratch it with a pick, or something, so you know exactly how to align your wheel to the steering shaft during reassembly. Sometimes you can remove small Torx screws with similar-sized Allen wrenches, but use caution, it's easy to strip the head of the screw if they're really tight.
