make sure you check where the rear coil spring sits on the frame. that's a nasty spot that im having to tackle currently and im lucky i caught it sooner rather than later. but its absolutly one to look at when buying these jeeps.

Pretty much same areas on the XJ too... my ‘00 has half the passenger floor pan gone lol, still runs like a champ though!

Hahaha, i put my foot right through my first wrangler's tub it got so rusted out. LOOK UP MONSTALINER!! You can also buy replacement sheet metal partial tub replacements that you can tack weld into the front seat area.

The fenders rust because of the bracket underneath, probably added for strength and rigidity, which have an air space which traps moisture …

another place to check is on the inside right behind the seats the vertical section behind where the rollbar mounts to the floor

You’ll need to remove, neutralized / seal the area and repaint!

Yo Greg, you need to go buy some POR-15...Look up some vids about prepping, that stuff actually chemically bonds to rust, then you paint it over. There is also another product that comes in a can with a hose that you can insert into all the frame holes, and it will do the same thing on the inside of the frame (forget the name sorry). I have a 2006 TJ Rubicon with NO RUST at all on the frame. Thank god I moved down to Florida, no more salt for me thanks. Also....Monstaliner makes the best product that is similar to all the other bedliner stuff, key difference is no crumb rubber but it does have a texture...best stuff ever the tub of my jeep is sealed and smurfadelic blue, ditch that carpeting for good! All it does is trap moisture when it gets wet.

What if the skid plate is rusted? How do I fix it?

I replaced my rear bumper in 2017, and noticed after only a few short years rust began to develop above and below it on the ends! The manufacturer did a piss poor job in rust proofing because it only had one coat of paint. Now I’m going to have to remove my bumper sand blast the old paint and redo the whole thing over

The welds on the skid plate nuts (which are welded to the inside of the frame) rust off and make it a real b**** to get the skid plate off.

Most American brands are horrible when it comes to rust. I had 2010 MBZ GLK 350 my neighbors one got a wrangler and the other a mustang brand new 3 years back Parcked in the street in the east coast. Now my car looks newer than theirs. German cars painting is baked, the motor buttom plastic cover Protects the engine from the elements my GLK is litterlly rust fee, the engine still clean. can’t say the same about the Jeep or the Mustang

Back in the 80's I bought a brand new CJ7, I think it was an "87, within a few years the black paint started peeling off in big 4-5 inch pieces. Bare metal was under the peeled-off pieces. It was obvious that AMC (who was building jeeps back) did NOT even prime, or seal the metal before spraying on the Black final paint color. I touched up the paint and sold that Jeep, bought an F150 4X4. Jeeps are Junk.
