One of the benefits for the spare tire is when someone rear ends you. The spare acts like a boat bumper and prevents your body from being damaged. That's if they are not going to fast that is. Only filling up with Ethanol free gas was a big one for me, even without using my flashpaq tuner in tandum. While the cost is a little higher than using garbage gas, the extra 50 or so kms per fill up I get makes up for it, and the fact that it runs a lot better & cleaner is an even bigger advantage. I don't care about fuel mileage. And honestly I am about $5.00 a gallon from giving a crap. But at least one other big player is altitude. In southern Utah we are always above 2500ft and can get over 6000ft really quick. My favorite mod besides the seemingly obvious things you have already mentioned is blocking my egr. My engine runs smoother at all rpms, (does not affect Idle, ha well it shouldn't) I run 35" bfg ko2's and 5:13's and with the egr blocked at sea level on a recent trip to commiefornia I was getting a constant 24/25mpg with the cruise set at the speed limit 70mph. We dont smog our vehicles here so not worried about the inspection. Oh did I mention I have 180k miles on the clock. I will do the cummins 2.8 repower when it fails ... and it will fail (insert evil laugh here!) Thanks for the great content.

@advrx10416 жыл бұрын
@@JKGearandGadgets I was in a position to change it, (My EGR) I had a check engine light. The code was reporting high current for EGR valve movement. I took the valve off, its on the right hand side of the 3.8l just behind the right exhaust manifold by the fire wall. If that does not help locate it there is a heat shielded stainless steel line that is directly in the middle of your upper intake plenum just follow that down and you'll find it. Its typically over $100 so it decided to clean it with some carb and choke cleaner and my M16 cleaning kit first.... On loan from the united states government. It was very dirty and I expect it would have worked well, BUT As I began to install it I recalled on all of my 4.2L and 4.0L that had an EGR when the vacuum diaphragm failed and it did I usually took it off and opened up a soda can and made a gasket that only had two bolt holes in it. This was no different I just simply made a gasket out of metal and only transferred the two bolt holes and then re-installed it. It has been that way for about 50K miles and the most notable change besides the fuel mileage is how much longer my oil stays clean. Since I use the 1year or 24K amsoil that is important.

Thanks, I did not think about towing a trailer for my things but it does make sense not to weigh the tires down. Trailer tires are 8 or 10 ply and hard side walls so I know they will run flatter. My Jeep is a 1995 Grand Cherokee Limited, 31.5 10.5 15 allow rimes 3.5 lift. I have a hood flair and a Thule mountaineer atop my roof rack so not so good there. What about the 12 hole injectors? What are your thoughts on those for increased power and mileage? Thanks.

2018 JK 2 door 315/70r17 mt's with soft top neasures 34", with hard top measures 33.5! Who knew, haven't regeared but thinking 4.56, doubt I ever go bigger in tires, 2" cheapo super lift springs and shocks basically, lot of hood flop especially driving into the wind, I'll look into latches, my JK has a built in eco mode, normal driving 75 max, mpg 16.5 avg, don't do much rock stuff but I'm new to the Jeep world, looking at a 4" complete super lift, I heard metal cloak was better, but the super lift is 1800 and a 2.5 metal cloak is 2500, so any thoughts on what I'm forgetting or never knew?

what"s your mpg for that JKU you have ? I get 13 on high way and about 8-9 on the city. I think that's way too low for car or SUV and believe me i don't step on the gas peddle at all. I have a 2.5 lift with 35'' on it that's it and yeah a spare tire in the back. Sometimes I think its the psi my tires are set, it reads 32 as I start my Jeep but once in motion and after a couple of minutes of drive it goes up to 34. do you have any idea what's the right psi for m/t tires at 35"? thanks I'm new to the jeep community and I'm trying to learn as much as I can doing researches and of course watching youtube videos like yours. they are very informative and helpful
@JKGearandGadgets6 жыл бұрын
I get around 15-16, you would benefit a ton from regearing to 4.56 or 4.88 depending on your engine. Your psi sounds correct
@garrettarsenault60106 жыл бұрын
I have a 2010 with 2.5 and 35s I run my tires at 35 psi and I have about 12 mpg, my advice is just cruise and a go easy on the gas, it’s a brick on wheels it’ll get there when it gets there.

JK Gear and Gadgets thanks for replying. My engine is 3.6l V6. Any recommendations for a new gear ? Also I watched you video for the CAÍ. I wanted to buy that same model you have but it turns out it didn’t fit my engine because it’s different is there another one made by the same company that will fit my engine? Thanks.

I can average out better with the Flashpaq Superchips setting for fuel economy but the shift points are crap and the engine runs strangely. Averages a few MPG better HWY. If I go above 65mph it starts dropping quickly because of the lift and 35inch tires. Geared 4.10 which helps in town but the higher RPM's on the interstate suck.

Diesel swap, best way to get better / great fuel economy, though it can be (very)pricey.

Great ideas brah. These vehicles are boxes on wheels & we all knew that when we bought it. I have a 3.5” lift, 35’s, light bar, winch, steel bumpers & side steps. The only mod I did engine wise was a green air filter. I don’t “step” on it much & I range from 17-20.4 mpg’s on h-way, city is still in the teens. All that depends on summer/winter gas blends. Weight is the villain of the wrangler & I say if it doesn’t benefit the Jeep off road then don’t buy it, even if it may look cool. 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽

Spot on! Imperative to have a plan on what you want to do with your Jeep. I think the best advice you gave is tire and wheel combo. Definitely doing the hood latches soon👍🏻. Good job, mang🤙
@cconnon19122 жыл бұрын
If you’re going to spend let’s say $5000 on a wheel and tire package to lose some weight. It’s not worth it. Say you increase mpg of 10%. (Higher than realistic) If you’re spending $120 a month in gas, it will take over 17 years to just break even. So please think about this in marathon terms. Heavy duty bumpers, rock sliders and a winch will all more than out do whatever savings you have an expensive options to lighten your vehicle. If you want expensive bigger wheels and tires or any other options do it. 😇 But be a really rustic about the math. 😂

Do you have any recommendations for reducing sway on highway’s for a JKU? +JK Gear and Gagets . For steering of course.
@JKGearandGadgets6 жыл бұрын
I’m about to go to bed, so we might have to continue this discussion tomorow lol. What kind of sway are we talking about. Steering sway (wandering) or body sway
@mrderek8006 жыл бұрын
JK Gear and Gadgets , the best way that I can describe it is that I’m drifting from the left and right side of the lane, and constantly correcting to stay in the middle when on the highway. There some play in the steering wheel like my old TJ and any Jeep Wrangler. Can I correct my “loose” steering to make it have more of a tighter feel? Thanks for responding. It’s a 07 JKU btw.
@JKGearandGadgets6 жыл бұрын
mrderek800 if it’s lifted then you most likely need some lower adjustable control arms and adjust your caster to a better spec
@mrderek8006 жыл бұрын
JK Gear and Gadgets the Jeep isn’t lifted. I just think I need to fix the steering somehow since at high speeds it gets loose.
