Hey guys great video. but I've got to add something important here. As an Engineer who deals with failure mode analysis in an industrial environment, and veteran jeeper, please please please note: If you have less than 50k or so miles, it's much safer to NOT do it that way. Just use it in the tank through the fuel system then maybe once a year or after another 20k or 30k. I've used and studied this stuff and the reason it works well is because of its potency. That said, when it sits in those pistons they will have a very dry / gritty start which is where the potential for damage comes in. Especially if someone puts in too much. Just food for thought.

THANK YOU for this comment, because I was about to do it on my 51k mile jeep where she’s pretty clean already and I guess I was going for a more preventative maintenance trick but this is well needed advice.

So, looooong story short. THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO. I had a cyl 6 misfire code. Replaced ALL the injectors, coils, plugs AND O2 sensors. Code remained. Followed your tips in this vid and codes disappeared and JK idles like a champ. Smoke bailed out as I drove through my neighborhood. You were right. I got looks. Had a po300 code come and go during the bad smoke. A Lot of hesitation and lag. Just kept driving. Within about 10-15 minutes, all the exhaust had cleared up and the engine was doing great. So grateful you made this video and the KZbin rabbit hole led me to it. You guys rock. 👍👍👍

Good info. One tip I recommend is run this before you put in new spark plugs. Using the seafoam I've noticed can create a little bit of build up on occasion on the spark plugs.

Well i tried the seafoam in the tank when i went to Oklahoma and i have to say that i got better gas mileage on the 2nd tank after running the tank with seafoam in it. I was getting around 17 mpg now it gets 20mpg. Now im running stock Except for the BFG K2 tires. I would Recommend this to everyone. Thanks a million for doing this video.

Seafoam's competitor- Chevron Techron is what I used in my motorcycle gas tank. The neck/tank was typical rusty, brown looking. The next time I opened it it looked shiny and brand new. Obviously this stuff works. It's nice to see it instead of 'hoping' the inside of your engine is clean. So if Chevron works, Seafoam would too. I've used the Seafoam straw before. I did just cram it into the inlet air tube and let-er-fly!!

Evening Ben, It’s Wade Skinner I have used sea foam in my Jeep CJ7 258 inline 6 engine today for the first time ever. Drove it around down town Waxhaw North Carolina and back home to Indian Trail North Carolina , it didn’t smoke or anything like that . My Jeep CJ7 drove very well. A fellow I mentioned this to said when he put it in his ‘02 TJ Wrangler it gummed up 1 of his sensors , he could not drive it for 6 months he says . But I had issues though I do have the Carter BBD Single Barrel Carburetor on my I6 engine. I wanted to let you know that I watch all your and Cassie’s videos.

Every oil change I dump some fuel system cleaner in my wife's LJ. I clean the throttle body every 3rd or 4th oil change. Started that routine at 15k miles now we're on 170k still running ok. Change the plugs every 30k. They always look fairly clean. Thanks for the vids.

Another really good use for it is to add it to your oil for the last 1,000 miles before an oil change or atleast a few days before an oil change. It really cleans the engine super good. Friend of mines been doing this and he had to change injectors on his 2003 6.0l powerstroke with 300k miles, when he took the valve cover off the heads looked brand new. No sludge or buildup of any kind at all.

I use the amsoil spray cleaner that you spray through your throttle body (which cleans the throttle body as well), it works great! I use it before every oil change.

Do an oil change with Royal Purple. Apparently it’s got some detergents in it that will clean a lot of build up in the lubricated side of the engine. There are a couple of videos showing before and after. That being said, I only run it one cycle out of the year, MOBIL1 is still my go to. Anyways food for thought, another great video!

Nice video Ben, but the process of cleaning through the intake is more for direct injection vehicles. The 3.6 is still mpi where the fuel injectors spray upstream of the intake valves and keep them pretty clean. The whole catch can design is almost required for direct injection since the evaporated oil from the crankcase cokes to the intake valves and the fuel is injected downstream of the valves, not cleaning them. GM's DI engines are having a tough time with this.

I also seafoam during oil changes. Drain oil 100%, replug, pour in a bottle of seafoam, crank the engine a few times (15 sec don't want to damage rings.) Reopen the drain plug and watch more junk come out. Some people also do this old school way with diesel fuel.

Good stuff Ben, but you should actually give Berrymans B12 Chemtool Total Fuel System Cleaner a try. Seafoam works ok for marine applications but Berrymans is the ideal product for a spotless engine. Lots of smoke out the tailpipe doesn't really mean anything really fit clean.

Another good tip is to not run any ethanol blended fuel. Up here in Canada the low and mid grades both have 10 and 5% ethanol I believe but the premium is ethanol free. You end up getting better gas mileage and better throttle response.

My 27 year old 5.2 ZJ is on its second motor. These engines have horribly designed factory intake manifolds. Which causes the plenum to leak. Causing oil to be gulped! I just replaced my manifold with a Hughes engines hi rise and would love to clean the bottom end out with some sea foam!!!!
@gen2-x3644 жыл бұрын
Typically if you keep the oil and oil filter changed frequently and change the air filter frequently the inside of a motor should run pretty clean. I've seen 100k mile vehicles opened up and everything looked clean but then again that's changing oil and filter every 4k miles. That's a little to often for some folks but it works very well.

Thank you for this video!! But I’m a little surprised, I sucked seafoam in to my ‘14 Jeep Wrangler with 155,000 miles just as you did, and waited 20 minutes, started it up and I had absolutely no smoke! I sucked in about 5 ounces. I also put about 5 ounces in my oil and 6 ounces in my fuel tank. I’m not sure if I did something wrong! 🤔🧐 It does however, seem to be more responsive and running better. I have a half can left, so maybe I’ll try it again!
