This is the 7th or 8th video I've watched after dropping my own fuel tank. Shortly after dropping mine I ended up buying a little Toyota 4 by at mine sat for almost 2 years all I was looking to find out is what hose goes where. I know that wasn't the objective of your video but after watching seven videos yours is the most detailed it gave me the information I needed. Good job partner keep it up.

Thanks for a great video. With friends that have tools and experience we removed, replaced fill, vent, fuel pump lines, and return. Cutting the access was well worth watching your videos. The tips you give are great for inexperienced amateurs like me. Not having a lift on my Wrangler and with different tolerances/wiggle room to work made it more of a challenge. I loaded my jeep on my utility trailer to work on it, and followed safety precautions to the max.

I have a 1995 YJ. I noticed that the tailpipe isn’t on your Jeep where mine is located. Mine is between the passenger side of the fuel tank and the rear spring shackle. Having the tailpipe in the way makes it a P.I.A. trying to drop the tank. I had to loosen the exhaust system to get the tailpipe to swing tight against the spring. Then, I was able to drop the passenger side of the tank in the exact same way, as you did. As a side note: on mine, there is also metal tailpipe shield welded onto the side of the skid plate; that also made the clearance really tight. Now I can work on my frame and follow your other videos and cut an access hole for future gas pump replacement and easily do the 15-20 gas tank mod - I really get a lot of good info from watching your videos !!! Thanks !!!!!!!!

Awesome video, that poor Jeep looks like she spent most her life in the Northern "salt on the roads" states, Michigan, New Hampshire, New York, etc. You get just covered in rust trying to take out a bolt. Job well done.

Thanks, glad you enjoyed the vid!! It was originally a Pennsylvania rig. There is tons of rust falling out of that thing every time I work on it. I've rebuilt (way over built) the frame with some scrap and new metal. I save pretty much just the outer skins of the tub and welded in a 3/16 plate floor/boat side mod. There really wasn't anything to save sooo .. built it for a trail rig toy.

This video was perfect for me. I have never owned a Jeep nor have I done any major mechanical work. Long story short, I had to replace the 4 cyl engine in my 1989 wrangler yj. Little did I know that when I bought a 1993 with a 6 cyl parts Jeep how much of an undertaking it would be. I have learned a lot along the way and thanks to videos such as this I am on the home stretch. Thank you for the very detailed video. And wish me luck when I finally get to turn the key that it will start!

My fuel tank drop was such a pain, I put it back in one piece at a time, plastic tank first then skid plate 2nd. That way you can jack each one separately side to side. The trick for me was to put the straps on but punch out the steel anchors on the front side of the straps so I could feed them through the skid plate cut outs when I pushed up the skid plate. Then you just anchor them with a bolt or whatever your best idea is.

I've done a few tank swaps/repairs over the decades the first was right out of high school with my 75 Maverick with nothing but basic handtools 2 of the bolts froze and had to use a hacksaw to cut them off...turned out the old 12 gallon tank was full of pin holes on one side of the bottom panel so swapped it for a 16 gallon tank from the salvage yard (straps to since both are different lengths) cleaned it all out slapped the new tank in and its been there ever since (yup still have the car)...with the tools I have now it would probably take no more than 30 to 45 minutes to pull and put back in (air tools FTW)...other ones I've done are 2 70's to 80's Camaroes and a mid 70s Cadillac ALL of them were a PITA lol but Rule number one with Caddy tanks EMPTY it fully first or your in for a loooong crappy day...those things are stupid heavy.

I've done several myself. Jeep YJs are no doubt one of the easier ones out there, rusty bolts or not. My son drove a 1996 Thunderbird for a while, you have to drop the tank to get the drive shaft out. The tank spans across the bottom of the car. Got to investigating farther and found that it was the rear CV shaft that was popping. WHEW!! I did not wanna drop that tank! My dad found that on late 90's S10 trucks that it was easier to pick up the bed than to drop the tank for a fuel pump. Thanks for dropping in and taking the time to leave a cool comment!!! Thank you for this video. This afternoon I dropped the gas tank because I think the fuel pump has failed. I've also marked out future access panel that I'll be cutting tomorrow. When I removed the fuel pump I noticed a plastic tray that sits below the pump and I assume keeps the slosh back and forth to a minimum. That tray is broken and had it not been for the pump would have been floating around like the small broken plastic pieces. Any idea where to find one? I've looked and can't figure out where to find a replacement. Thanks for the great channel - your videos are great and easy to follow!!

Great video… just a question, the plug ( 3wire) to the fuel sending unit, can this be unplugged without dropping the tank? ( issue is: i had a wiring harness installed ( included this 3 wire plug) at a shop ,said they unplugged it , reconnecting the new wiring harness plug, to the old one , to the fuel sender unit without dropping the tank, but I can not see how that would be possible, so IF you could give me any insight on this that would be great, I wanna make sure they did the job correctly. Thank you for that great video. If and when I drop my tank, I now know what it entails. I have some questions. When filling my tank, the pump kicks out before it's full. I have to slowly fill it from there. (Over 20 liters) What can I do to correct that? Do you have the same problem? I thought about moving the filler to the same position as the TJ and JK. What do you think of that? PS: I removed my rear track bar. After all the problems I had loosening the bolt on the axle and seeing the problems you had, I took my Saws-all and cut the tube near the frame mount. I hope my ride will feel better like your did.

Being that you didn't say what year yours was. First you need to determine if you have the metal tank or plastic. Metal tanks are 15 gallons and your stuck with it unless you got great skills. The plastic tanks are 20 gallon, it just that sometimes Chrysler used a vent tube to limit the fuel to 15 gallons. Remove that vent tube .... you have 20 gallons.
