JEEP XJ WINDOW TRIM RESTORATION FOR 1997-2001 CHEROKEES

Here's how I freshened up the window trim of my 2000 Jeep Cherokee XJ. A little detail goes a long way!!!

Thanks for the video. Very helpful when it came to removing the moldings. I opted to strip, sand, and polish mine. I didn’t realize that you were able to remove the upper rear molding without having to drop the division bar. I loosened the 10mm bolt behind the door trim and the screw at the top of the door so I could move the division bar down enough for the molding to clear it but maybe I’ll try your method for the other side. Don’t need to worry about scratching the molding paint since I’m stripping it.

Thanks Dan! Was able to restore my window trims on my 1993 2-Door XJ. Was pretty difficult to remove the peeling paint even with paint stripper! Ended up scratching off the metal with a blade then sand it flush cause I was too impatient 😂Earned a new subscriber!

I have been wondering how I was going to correct the pealing of my Jeep window trim paint - I knew it was some sort of rubberized paint solution so wasn't sure it could be done - You are da man! Thanks - Problem Solved. Looks Great!

HAHA, If I were to do this again I would use a more durable paint. It has shown some blemishes over the course of the year.

For anyone thinking about trying this the best thing you can do is get some aircraft paint remover and slap it on the trim, the paint will come right of and u wont need to scrape with the knife or anything. Believe me the price is WAY worth the time saved if u have multiple of these pieces to do

I used the same dupli-color, but, after I took of the drivers side front and rear, I found the clips were crusty. Cleaned them up, but, had a hell of a time getting the bottom ones back in. so, when I did the passengers side, I just masked up everything and painted while on the vehicle

Nice work. I know this is not a video about standing water, but I went to my 99 xj this morning and both the front and rear passenger foot wells were filled with rug soaking water. It had rained here for 24 hours straight. Can you offer any advise on culprits? I didn’t see where the water had come in. My seals don’t look rotten. I went online to find a complete set to redo everything but all of them seem to stop at year 1996. That window sweep you took off at the beginning of your video seems to be impossible to find for a 99 xj. I’d greatly appreciate any suggestions since you are a master in this Cherokee field. If possible, try to replace the trim first. strip in and paint it as a last resort. Im out east in Shirley! wel definitely meet up one day!

Hey Dan I was wondering if there's an alternative to buying door weatherstripping other thank RockAuto? On Rock auto they're $36.79 and Rear lift gate is $23. Would it be cheaper to get Home Depot ones?

No, the side cargo glass is held in by a rubber gasket. On 97 to 01 the hatch glass is glued in like the windshield

@@thomassylvestro9041 they should be fine. You can adjust your fenders to align the sides and you can adjust the radiator support bracket for the height. xJs are so simple.. that's why I love em!

Just a lil word of advice for anyone having issues with getting the rubber plastic coating off the trim. Soak it in 100% acetone. Thank me later it’ll just fall off after 30 mins or so.
