What I found for the rear frame shackle on my 1988 yj is that if you take out both of the rubber bushings in the frame, the bolts will have the clearance to slide out. Once you pry and wiggle the outer bushing out, the inner one tapped out easily with a long punch.

Yup my bolts were installed the same way, ass backwards so I had to cut them off, but hey now they’re brand new.

The problem I'm having, is keep bending the stock shackles. Then my steering wanders a little. I also have a 4" lift with rubber shackle bushings. These boomerangs look way beefier. Or maybe I'll do a shackle reversal and have different problems . LOL.thank you

I have had these for over 6 years and I have not bent one. You definitely need them tight but not to tight that your suspension doesn’t move. I’m planning on doing the shackle reversal too. But which that definitely comes other issues like SYE will be needed, a new drive shaft, and axle shims possibly.

Should have show what it looked like with the wheels on the ground. Did these shackles change the angle of the shackle. I noticed in the before picture, your stock shackles were almost vertical. Thank you. By the way great video

These shackles almost sit like stock ones. What they help with is your downward travel and it also helps to stop your leaf springs from inverting.

On the back shackles you didn't have to cut the bolts. If you loosened up the gas tank enough to move it to one side the bolts would have came out. I did mine I didn't cut the bolts off.

You said you already had 4 inch lift. Did adding the shackles make any handling improvement? I have stock springs. Do you think shackles worth it?Really thorough video btw.

isshinryu11 Yes my shackles were called boomerang shackles. They gave me 1” lift over stock and because of the shape gave me more flex. Thanks for watching

Jeepjkgrrl Jshore I actually tried it that way but for some reason when the springs were fully compressed the shackles hit the frame. That’s why I flipped them do I wouldn’t run into any binding. Thanks for watching.

William Burch Yes it was the crown automotive. I got them off of amazon. Crown Automotive 52040415KHD-2 Heavy Duty Greasable Shackle Kit. The shackles are holding up great, however the bushings are not the best. I would upgrade them.

Hi great video! So I was just curious to see if you have had any issues with clearance or rubbing during off road with the front because the instructions that came with it said to have the front ones opposite of that? Also did you see an improvement with ride quality and how much did this lift your jeep? Thank you I appreciate it!

Justin Tann I haven’t had any issues with rubbing in the front or back. It actually rides really nice with them. Make sure you do not Torque the bolts down to much or you won’t get the flex you want. Thanks for watching. Please like subscribe and share.

Urgain Thustop thanks for the great comment. If your asking about the shackle bushings I would recommend putting new ones in. But for your shocks you can reuse what you have unless of course they are completely shot.

How you say to do the front makes sense but the instructions say you put them on upside down. Have you noticed anything bad about that? Did you have to adjust your drag link for your steering wheel?

WaiteProductions Yes you will need to lengthen the drag link to the a passenger wheel. It’s only a small adjustment. I do recommend to the flip steering mod. That will help to get your steering closer to stock, and you won’t have as much bump steer. I have another video on how to do that.

WaiteProductions It took me about 2 days to do my lift. The shackles took about 3 hrs to do all 4 corners.

The way you put the front shackles on is different from most manufacturers recommend (specifically Crown), they recommend the long leg sticking out, have you had any problems with the way you did it?

Tyler No I haven't had any issues with them. The reason I installed them that way is so they didn't interfere with the steering box. Thanks for checking out my video.

Where the shackle attaches to the frame do you put the bushings in and then the steel rod and then the bolt with the nut? And is it the same for where the shackle attaches to the leaf?

STDWizard Yes the bushings were installed in the frame and then I put one side with a bolt through the frame, and then the spacer / bolt and then the other side was slid over the frame bolt and the spacer bolt. Then I loosely tightened those up. Then I lifted the leaf springs up to line them up to the bottom hole in the shackle, and then slid in the bottom bolt. After all of them were installed I torqued the bolts to 40 ft lbs. I hope this helped. Thanks for watching please check out some of my other videos. If you had a choice, which would you change first, front or rear? I have heard that shackles mess with steering. Did you find this to be the case?

isshinryu11 Honestly I replaced them both at the same time because they did raise the jeep 1”. But if the budget doesn’t allow for both I would do the rear first.

John Crowder The old bushings on the frame just fell out. I didn't need any tools to remove them. I didn't remove the bushings on the springs because the springs were brand new.

Este Aragon I was thinking that as well however I already have a 4" suspension lift, 1" shackle lift and a 2" body lift. I think I might be going a different route then soa.
