Your a great dad, you take your time to explain each wire and the function of the item that the wire connects to. Got to laugh when you said you got to go under the engine to replace the starter wire the surprise look on Sasha’s face was LOL. She never gave up and got greasy hands and finished the wire upgrade. Spending time with your child is a priceless gift and teaching her to work on her own jeep is some perfect lessons she will carry on. Great job she did. Thanks for the explanation done very well Sasha.

Very cool 1st (safe) vehicle for her. I taught my niece how to drive in my '98 XJ LTD with a 4.5" lift and 32's. These Jeeps have that dreaded oil filter adapter leak, due to the O rings. It can mimic a faulty rear main seal, so inspect that area closely if there's a minor drip.

A lot of that oil on the starter is likely from the oil filter elbow. New set of gaskets is real cheap, but the bolt holding it on has loctite on it, so it can be tough to get off. Once you get it free though, it's a real easy fix and gets rid of one of the major leak points. Having oil on your starter isn't ideal, as it can be a bit of a fire hazard.

This is a great video Dale , I think this very important . I have all the stuff to make up these cables , so I do my own. I like the way I can make them route where I want them and add large fuse .

Very good, I'm watching this while in the middle of installing these cables on my XJ. One quibble though, nothing is going to go boom if you are working on the negative terminal and touch a piece of metal with the wrench, the positive terminal is something else again. Not on an XJ anyway, if you are working on a much older vehicle, say a 55 Studebaker with 6v positive ground then you don't want to ground the negative terminal.

If your wrench touched the car or any other metal besides the positive cable or terminal you'll be fine, that's coz it's all grounded the same. Good practice tho. If your wrench touches any metal while working on the positive cable that's when it'll short out
@jaredhamburg8350 Жыл бұрын
The starter cable has 2 wires for me. what goes to the battery positive and the solenoid for the starter. Any recommendations for what to do?
@mattcero12 жыл бұрын
Your battery powers everything not your alternator. Your alternator simply charges and back up your battery. That's why most race cars, especially Nascar and Indy cars have no alternators. This is to eliminate weight and motoring friction. The battery is enough to power the car for the short time of the race.

I see in the video you used a power tool to remove the ground by the fender. I tried removing with a ratchet and I broke it loose but now it just keeps spinning. Can’t get any tools behind the bolt to grab it. Did you run into any issues with that bolt? Right now I’m currently driving it with a slightly loose ground until I can get that bolt off to upgrade my cables.
@JeepSolid9 ай бұрын
It didn’t give me any issue. You don’t have to use that exact spot. You could drill a new hole or use any spot close that’s a clean ground to the fender.

Wouldn’t you want to put the dielectric grease on after you connect the wire? I thought it was non-conductive
@maetb3 жыл бұрын
I was thinking that too - make the connection then spread it on
@maetb3 жыл бұрын
@@smcfall2 ok, but look up the word dielectric. Maybe it will work, but only because some grease is pushed out of the way enough to make contact.
@maetb3 жыл бұрын
@@smcfall2 Dielectric grease is an insulator by definition. Please do a quick search or read some instructions
@robd60903 жыл бұрын
@@smcfall2 so I looked it up. And the definition of dielectric is “insulator” but since he’s putting such a thin layer on, it won’t really affect anything. So you’re pre-edited answer of just “no” is partially correct, it wouldn’t matter for this, but it is a non-conductive substance. Thanks for editing it to try to be a dick though.
@JeepSolid3 жыл бұрын
It’s ok to put it on before. When connections have good contact, grease doesn’t interfere. I feel I get better coverage that way as well. Doesn’t leave nooks and crannies exposed

How many gallons of oil does she go to on that jeep the entire frame area area around the starter the entire bottom of the oil pan was covered in black oil. If it's the front seal or the camshaft seal and it's slinging oil around you get into the alternator and short out alternator. If the oil pan gasket is bad you know drops it all drain the oil drop the pan change the gasket and put that new RTV that this General motors has been using that most mechanics nowadays like to put in the oil pan.
