You never go wrong with a vertical fist to the gut. Old school boxing never gets old. I’ve shown this technique to my class of boxers. They all love it. When done right really rocks your opponents foundation and Puts them on there heels. The switch hitters love it from the southpaw vs orthodox stance cuz you get the added bonus of being on the blindside of your opponent. Nice video Sifu.

In my humble opinion, this is probably your best video yet. The fighter inside crouch, stepping off the line and counter-striking with the shovel hook(s) -- reminds me a lot of the first form I learned in Mantis Kung Fu. Aloha from Hawaii Sifu Jason. We have a bit of a history of street fighting here that most people don’t know of. And had my share of scraps. Now I’m getting into true kid deep, I would like to know if head butts, knees and elbows is out of the question when fighting giant Polynesians. And is the shovel hook effective against this type of opponent??

Head butts are devastating. Elbows, knees and shovel punches are great too. Some of the fellas you’re talking about are gonna be able to take some damage, so always remember the basics and don’t go for a one-shot kill. Maintain good defensive cover at all times and use combinations of these strikes smartly. Hope this answered the question ...and thanks a bunch for watching.

Alfons Grizzly either stance works because you have to be squared up to throw them properly. Just work on getting good position on the inside - using the crouch with the proper angle - and you’re good to go.

Once again an excellent video on practical jkd. Sifu, I may be wrong but I don't see much use of elbows in your videos or in Lee's JKD - is there a particular reason for this? Thanks
@JKDandWingChun5 жыл бұрын
andrew huckerby good question. I cover the topic in some detail in the book but here’s the short version. The elbow is efficient in such cases when it’s the most direct weapon, which is rare because the fist, palm or fingers are usually closer. Plus, an elbow strike can leave you open since you momentarily have both hands on one side of your center. That makes it hard to stuff takedowns, etc. This isn’t to say, of course, that an elbow strike shouldn’t be used. It’s just that the JKD fighter must be judicious and circumspect in its application. The idea is always simplicity - that is, offensive-defense (or Jeet!) in every action. Hope this helped and thanks for watching.

Bruce lee used wing chun and western boxing for hands, and he used Tae kwon do and Savate for kicks, he used certian techniques in muay thai like knees and elbos for inside fighting, and he trained in small circles Jiu-jitsu, Judo and catch wrestling. Bruce Lee was also a defensive counter striker, he was explosive and fast and he he hit very hard for a 5'7 man that only weighed 145 lbs.

Addendum: After reading this book 3 times, I feel I must offer comment on the judeo Christian metaframe as is presented. As a strict empiricist atheist myself, I at first raised an eyebrow to this presupposition stack offered within. But then I remembered that Christianity as a metaphysical framework does not require us to believe in actual talking snakes etc. Jordan Petersons take on Christianity for example, as a symbol and metaphor rich scaffolding, will still offer the superstructure without offending reason. Or simply, a supreme being as a metaphysical ideal will do

We always recommend a good boxing gym for those without a Wing Chun school nearby. Boxing “adds” less extraneous stuff to one’s Wing Chun and, in our humble opinion anyway, is easier to integrate with one’s Wing Chun. Just a thought. Not that MT is evil, LOL. Just that boxing keeps things closer to the Wing Chun principles. Same thing with JKD. Anyway, great input and thanks for watching. Hope this helped.

at 4:18 you completely lost me on your knowledge of JKD trapping. I saw two additional hits you could have done. So let me rant.... Really missing the whole crux of the intercepting fist. You are teaching boxing principles (which look like Hollywood stunt man punches a few times) and calling it JKD, this is an age old marketing tactic and very unfortunate it still happens. The way you enter anyone with beginner knowledge of a Thai clinch would take this gift you give them. It is different to state practicality then stating the system of fighting you are using. This will always lead to disaster.
@JKDandWingChun4 жыл бұрын
LouKiss sorry to disagree so vehemently but I was talking about the danger of going in with one’s chin up. That’s a massive danger. An easy way - as I described, which you ignored - to get KO’d. We have other videos on trapping. The comment you reference here has to do with going in with your chin up and its obvious danger. If you disagree, feel free to keep playing in traffic then. Either way, thanks for watching.

Do you know what JKD means? It's the way of the Intercepting Fist. You are not doing JKD. You are trying to profit of of that name (like many others). If you don't have BL-level attributes you can not intercept. Do you understand 'non-intention'? I doubt it. Stop calling it that name and confusing people.

thanks for pointing this out! He is teaching boxing here and gets butt hurt when called out. I've been training in JKD under first gen students since 1991 and taught since 2002 (I have the certificates to prove it). Because I evolved in my learning I don't have the audacity to call what I do JKD. I will teach JKD core as was taught to me and implementing my discoveries but will never say Thai boxing or BJJ is JKD. He has money to spend on KZbin promotion otherwise I would have never heard of this guy.
