The problem I notice is that, more often than not, is the entitlement mentality of kids and teens raised around money or of money, and I know if I had a lot of MONEY, and my children wanted something that I could easily afford it would be hard to tell them no hence encouraging the sense of entitlement which later becomes spoiledness and rebellious when they finally hear NO told to them.

I don’t think I have ever seen a black man communicate as clearly as Jeezy. What I mean by that is, the ability to be open, honest, vulnerable, say exactly what it is etc. this is inspiring. *One of the most important things that I have done as an adult is decide to look at my parents as JUST human beings. I’ve sat and thought about their stories, their trauma and their pain, the things they’ve told me and the things they may never tell me and it has helped me to understand that they are just trying to figure out life like me. We put them on pedestals because they are our parents but above that they are just human beings. I don’t have a great relationship with my dad, I could hate him for it but I don’t because I understand that people can’t give you what they do not have, for him to better than his own parents he would have had to make an active decision to do so and some people either don’t have the insight, the know how or the ability to see beyond their own pain, having a child doesn’t erase our parents trauma and I love MYSELF enough to not hate them for that.*

I resonate 100% what you wrote, this is why I’m able for it not to affect me so much as an older adult. We don’t have a handbook on how to love or parent, I love my parents for the people they are, none of us are perfect. I’m ok with the decisions my mother made and I’m not bitter, my father is a whole different story however when I look at his childhood I understand how he is. You are right, self love is the most important thing, once we do this, we won’t look to anyone else to validate us.
