Watched all the episodes. The man knows his craft. Excellent. Very well done. I did hear he happens to be very smart and does work for military intelligence. Tom Dowd, an outstanding producer worked on "The Manhttan Project". Who would think that great musical minds can also be great electrical engineers? They say the both are not exclusive. Music is mathematics. Mathematics is music. Einstein loved to play the piano.

I played the Roland MIDI mentioned here in like 2000 as a piano. It was cool as shit. It didn't take long to adjust my timing because making the guitar sound like a keyboard there is like a millisecond delay from the time you hit the note until it comes through the amp. Cool as shit!

No... but that is kind of the whole beauty of the MIDI deal Brian. You can take a MIDI compatible instrument from 1986 and hook it up to a MIDI compatible instrument that was built yesterday and they're going to work right away! Think of it as an early USB compatible device. The thing that is important is that he has the right interface on his guitar to translate over to "keyboard". You can still put effects on the keyboard sounds if need be.

Ah yes, the Roland GR1. A blast from the past. It was something else when it came out. I didn't own one, but sold many.

that was sick at 1:17 , somebody has some cash, what device is he playing thru? roland GL-1 is that what he said? I have two new MIDI keyboard controllers and Roland PCR500 and an E-MU X-board 49 and a new CUBASE-5 digital music studio by Steinberg. by the way I don't know how to play any of it . I only play banjo lol.

@zthetha What exactly was so bad with it? He really knows his stuff and is just showing what can be done. Nothing can replace a full string quartet orchestra.

In this lesson Skunk explains that even tho you might be a pretty good player, you probably won't be putting a roof over your head or cars in the driveway with your playing.

People... Keyboard sounds have come A LONG WAY since this video was made. Judging by the way they sound this vid was probably made in the mid' 90's. This is actually a big problem that the music industry has. So few musicians are exploring technology the way Quincy Jones, Herbie Hancock and others did back in the 1970's. EVEN IF a guitar player was just using a MIDI interface, keyboard module and sequencer as a composing tool things would be better! You can get actual players later... geez

Yeah, I checked your vid. That's cool that you are playing multiple instruments but it turns out I'm preaching to the choir. I would say that using Propellorheads Reason would be the hot set-up then to get all your work done. I can't be responsible for knowing every musician in the World or cluing in on the names... Keep up the good work.

@Bullzeye95 mostly you're right, but fortunately there are still some exceptions. check Guthrie Govan. he can do EVERYTHING on that instrument. i sometimes doubt that he's human. but.. still not too widely known, which kind of proves your statement is right. anyways - i strongly recommend getting familiar with what he's doing. it's insane. and extremely musical.

OK this comment won't be popular but he talks about finding your own style and not needing "gear" to do it...but then he goes right into yakking about stompboxes and a lengthy disertation on synthesizers. Maybe this should be "Jeff Baxter talks about using technology for guitar"?

Those are not "effects". He using the guitar as a "MIDI Controller" the same way you would use keyboard to control "synthesizer modules" or a software package like Propellorheads Reason. I agree though, absolutely sicc.
