One thing about George's throws is that he generates super velocity with little effort. He barely flicks his wrist from his back foot but the ball zips like a Roberto Clemente throw from right field. I think Vick could throw on a roll-out with more strength but Jeff George seems to be the naturally strongest arm I've seen, & I've been watching since 1977. Still, what good is a million dollar arm when it's attached to a 10 cent head & pissy attitude.

If you watched his career in school you wouldn't been surprised by his NFL career. Granted he had the arm of God. But even in high school if he took a big hit mommy would run out on the field to help him, and he wasn't at all embarrassed. Those are the years that form your internal grit. It was taken from him, so it's no surprise he couldn't take the heat of the NFL.

If only Jeff George would've kept his attitude in check. I loved him in Minnesota. Look to who he was throwing to, C Carter, & Randy Moss. I really thought he would lead us to our first SB Victory; as a Viking. I've always said that if I could pick the Vikings ultimate QB, I would've selected Jeff George. No disrespect to the other great Viking QBs. & yes, over Warren Moon, Tarkenton, Culpeper, & Cunningham. His damn attitude got the best of him. sad but true.

I have said many times that I have never seen anyone throw the ball like Jeff George. It wasn't just that he could throw it a long way. They can all do that. It got where he was throwing it on a frozen rope most of the time, even 30, 40, 50 yards down field. I have never seen anyone throw it with such velocity and accuracy at the same time. And his ability to diagnose a defense quickly was also elite. Yet he is a footnote in NFL history because he wasn't a good enough leader. I agree that they would have had a better shot with him in '00 than they did with Daunte, especially had they drafted Jevon Kearse, because Carter was the leader on that team. All George would have had to do was just keep slinging those gorgeous deep laser shots to Moss, Carter, & Co and they would have been in business. Oh well.

IMHO there are different types of arms. Some have quick release, some are distance throwers, some have velocity, power, or just great mechanics. Jeff George is the only QB to check each of those boxes! His throws travel differently through the air and almost always a tight spiral! When it comes to golden arms....it's George then everyone else!

That's how a lot of them used to do it. Watch Elway, Flutie, guys from that era. I always thought it made sense because it would seem to give them a better angle to see the whole field. Didn't matter in George's case anyway since he could launch it 75 yards on a rope in the middle of his dropback.

The falcons were a run and shoot team at the time, and the strange drop you see him taking is called a “half roll.” The qb sets up behind the guard/tackle,instead of going straight back. Half roll pass protection is different than what you see normally, but is done for a variety of reasons

@@nikosuavesworldofsportsmusic who made that list? I was a huge John Elway fan. I started liking Elway because he was compared to Bert Jones. Elway had a great arm, but not the arm Bert Jones had when healthy. People just do not seem to understand how strong armed Bert Jones was. No way Marino had the same arm strength of Jones. LOL. Brett Favre had a really good arm but Jones could literally flick the ball 50 yards while looking like he barely made an effort to throw the ball. Jones could easily throw the ball 70 yards in the air or further. If you look at some of the throws Jones made they were 60 yards downfield but halfway ACROSS the field. That is a HUGE arm. Jeff George had a tremendous arm and could challenge Jones. But George also threw from more platforms than Jones, so some advantage there to George. But for pure arm strength and the ability to make EVERY throw no one was better than Jones. Ask Belichick.

George had the *Golden Arm* ... but he also had an ego to match it. And what these highlight reels don’t show is, George often forced throws into double-triple coverages, thinking his arm strength could compensate for it. He was definitely gifted, and better than average statistically, but many felt he fell short of what would be projected being a No.1 overall pick.

I am not saying he was a great QB. But watching Jeff George throw a football was one of the greatest things ever as a football fan. Had he landed with the Vikings three years earlier, even without Randy Moss, he would have been there for the end of the 90's. He could run an offense two weeks after joining a team. He could make any throw and show leadership. He could NOT protect the football on sacks lol, and that was one of his major downfalls. Along with his ability to communicate with June Jones. If I am not mistaken and feel free to correct me the 1995 Falcons are the only team in NFL history to have a 4000 yard passer (J. George) 3 1000 yard receivers (Mathis, Emmanuel, and Metcalf) and a 1000 yard rusher (Heyward) all in the same season. I have been checking pro football reference but I can't find any other teams that have done this.

2004 Indianapolis Colts (Peyton Manning), (Edgerin James), (Hall of Famer Marvin "He allegedly caught a body Harrison, Reggie Wayne, & Brandon Stokley) as well but with an added bonus their 3 1,000 yard wide receivers all had at least 10 receiving touchdowns first & only time thus far in NFL history that feat has been accomplished.

Big Facts. When I first started watching the NFL as a 7 year old in 1989 I believed from 1989-93 it was a 4 way tie for who had the strongest arm between Dan Marino, John Elway, Randall Cunningham, & Jay Shroeder & I couldn't make a definitive selection. Then the first game I saw Jeff George as the Atlanta Falcons starting quarterback in their "Red Gun/Run-N-Shoot offense in 1994 I knew instantly he possessed the STRONGEST arm I had ever seen & now as an adult I KNOW he has the strongest arm in NFL HISTORY!!!

@@JsnHighlights1316 I feel his velocity was greater as well as distance. I honestly believe prime Daunte Culpepper & Randall Cunningham had just as strong if not stronger arms than Vick but Cunningham just had that ridiculously long ass wind up before he threw the ball where as Vick had a quick snap like throwing motion. Also only Dan Marino had a quicker release than Jeff George with Sonny Jurgensen, Joe Namath, the late Joe Gilliam, Aaron Rodgers, Warren Moon, & Matthew Stafford being in their stratosphere.

He held that ball with the index finger on the top of the ball - Mark Rypien is the only other QB that I can think of that did the same. They both threw the deep ball incredibly well, but they both had accuracy issues throughout their careers. 57.9% for George - 56.1% for Rypien. Not terrible... but throwing the ball like that definitely effects the “easier” types of throws.

Right up there with Elway, Cunningham and Mahomes on arm talent alone with awful throwing and body torque to boot. Imagine if would have been coachable? They could have cleaned up his mechanics. His problems were all between the ears. Temper tantrums and sulking got him fired from three teams! Not cut...not traded...but actually canned on the spot (that's got to be a record in the NFL? No?). Teammates seemed to like him though. Wierd. Also, sounds like a good guy off the field. Good luck to him in the futures. ✌️.
