On this special episode of the Hell & High Water podcast, iconic actor and musician Jeff Goldblum sits down with journalist John Heilemann for a wide-ranging and freewheeling conversation.
They break down Goldblum’s famous “hipster nerd” persona and how Sandy Meisner’s improv techniques played a role in its unintentional creation; they discuss season two of The World According to Jeff Goldblum, the upcoming Jurassic Park: Dominion, and Wes Anderson’s film Asteroid City; and they dive into classics from Goldblum’s oeuvre, like his appearance in The Simpsons and Apple iMac ads, and his starring role in the cult classic, The Fly.
Stick around to the end, to hear Goldblum talk about his music career and to see him tickle the ivories!

John is trying desperately to get Jeff to acknowledge and explain the reason people find him so alluring over and over again, but that's the thing about Jeff. He's such a detached yet deeply human character that is so interesting because of the way he operates just a little bit outside of the bubble. You can't ask him why he thinks people like him because if he actually tried to answer that, he wouldn't be the person people liked. His responses to these "Why do people like you so much more than others?" questions always result in him going on really deep and sometimes incomprehensible tangents because he doesn't know, think, or care about the why. He lives his own unique life and doesn't ever play within the lines. I don't know how I could ever interview him, he's so intimidating and eccentric and genius. Props to John for trying, but the best moments of this interview are when they're being playful and letting Jeff lead. The Halloween costume conversation is my favorite part, so small and fun and simple. More of that stuff, more or letting Jeff reflect on what he wants to reflect on instead of trying to solve the riddle that is the Goldblum.

Jeff Goldblum has the perfect attitude of “what’s next” and does not live in the past. He’s the epitome of the phrase “ Living in the Now”. It’s rare. Most people only can look backward, he’s refreshing like ozone after the rain.

John Heilman is way too serious. He needs to watch Kevin Nealon's interview with Jeff Goldblum to see how it is done. In that interview Goldblum came off relaxed and as himself.

What a phuktardian comment. This delightful interview was a bit deeper than a walk with Kevin Nealon 🤣, and miles over your head. Goldblum was in his element here!

@@r.p.mcmurphy6623I don’t agree at all. I saw his face go flat several times while John suggested it was “an act”. I watched his appearances on Craig Ferguson on Late, Late Show and he was in his comfort zone there. Here I feel he got bored fairly early on.

I like the interview for all the information in it. But there's a side to it that feels uneasy, to me. The interviewer has these very long (sometimes over arching) questions, sometimes hard to follow. And Jeff has this tendency to go off the trail, even on personal questions.. Maybe I've grown accustomed to edited clips of easy interviews (where he flirts with interviewer, btw). It must be hard to interview Jeff, but a new rhetoric device should be invented, in order to lead him without interrupting him. He is a national treasure. But I'm sure they are talented and can do a second, more concise interview.

Stop saying Jeff is "Peeking" its very insulting. Jeff is has a bit of resurgence like Keanu, and that is all, they both continue to work and assuming or saying he is peeking assumes his career will fall off after this point and will be no longer be seen. Which is ridiculous.

This John interviewer has such an ego... He's making the interview boring, he interrupts too much and raises his voice doing it. Very irritating. The questions are quite obnoxious. You feel Jeff's energy waining as the minutes pass... The interviewer very concerned to seem interesting, which gives the opposite impression. The amount of minutes we have to listen to him is almost certainly as many as Jeff's. Too many assumptions, attempting to be assertive comes off as aggressive, which makes people defensive and less open. We don't care what you think, we came here to hear Jeff Goldblum talk and know more about him, not you really.

Idk what John was trying to get at, seemed like he’s grilling him like he’s a Trump politician. Why don’t you do that to a Trump Republican. This interview made no sense and yet Jeff still handled it with grace, ease, and eloquence. Jeff Goldblum is a global treasure.

Holy hell this is unwatchable, if it isnt nosecandy that guy needs to work on his anxiety and prep for guests. He lost Goldblum so early and it all spiraled from there. Dear lord, hes asking a question, interrupts him immediately, makes an assumption about the answer himself and moves on to the next question.
