I have neuropathy in my right leg - my driving leg - due to disc degenerative disease. I haven’t driven much since 2019. I miss it. Perhaps investing in this, I’ll regain my desire and ability to get out there again. Great video! It gives me hope.

I have this JG control on my Skoda. I can 1000% recommend it to anyone wanting hand controls. Very simple to use and feels very natural. It's a totally different way to drive, but it's very easy to get used to and will give you total independence. Wife can still drive normally with pedals. Everyone's a winner

No it’s a mechanical push/pull brake and accelerator made by Jeff Gosling Hand Controls. The indicator switch and the steering ball are commonly added options. It’s a really simple reliable easy to use system.

Iv been using these controls for the past 30 years, very well explained although I am slightly different with the breaking. I also do not use a steering ball.
@HighTen_Melanie5 жыл бұрын
I’ve been using hand controls for 19 years. I’ve tried other brands such as Cowal and Becker. My current car is four and a half and has J.Gosling hand controls. They are by far the best in terms of quality. I’m in the process of getting my next car and have requested identical Gosling controls. My steering ball is at 8 O’Clock as I can’t drive with my arm up high. The ideal position is 10 o’clock which is a more natural driving position. However please note that different people prefer different makes of hand controls and it’s very much a personal choice. If possible it’s best to try them all because there are other brands that may suit you better. I’d like to try Tec Mobility but haven’t had the opportunity.

This is cool. I'm not handicapped but I'm tall and I get a lot of tension in on the right side of my lower leg in stop and go traffic from having to pivot my foot from brake to gas and back, over and over again. They say it's best to lift your whole foot up instead of pivoting my foot on my heel but this is even more awkward. This system would be great for people with sciatica and piriformis issues.

I’ve been using Jeff Gosling Hand Controls in both my own cars and my late brothers cars for over 13 years and have always been happy with them. I highly recommend the indicator switch as Des points out it’s a lot easier like going around roundabouts etc. On my recent car a 2019 Citroën C4 Cactus I also specified the flip up accelerator pedal so I can stretch my right leg more. City Motor Services in Cardiff fits my Adaptions. Great video Des is Jeff any relation?

Great video. Couple of questions. If you let go of the lever whilst driving does it automatically go to the mid setting and when its there does the crawl start?
@desgoslingmobility658711 ай бұрын
Sorry for the delay in response to this question. The lever does return automatically to the mid setting if released. At this point the car will act as it would with no pressure on either pedal, so if it will usually crawl in this situation then it will also crawl with the lever in its mid setting.

If I had this fitted and sometimes wanted to use the pedals as normal would the pedals fill 'heavier' because it is joined to the hand controls?
@desgoslingmobility6587 Жыл бұрын
No, there will be no noticeable difference in how heavy the pedals feel for a person driving with the pedals as normal. As the person brakes, the hand control lever will move as they press the brake pedal but will not resist the motion in any way. As they accelerate there will be no movement of the hand control lever.

What about manual cars,can this be used ?And how would a driver with one foot operate the clutch and gears as well as this?
@desgoslingmobility6587 Жыл бұрын
This system is only suited to automatic cars. Whilst there are solutions out there for people wanting to continue to drive a manual vehicle, we recommend that people switch to an automatic as it keeps things as simple as possible. Most hand controls require both hands to be in use for steering as well as braking/accelerating, so it is very complicated to also change gears. Des Gosling Mobility Ltd

I already have a push pull hand control on my car as I'm disabled and currently learning to drive, is it possible to get the indicator switch fitted and how much would it roughly cost for a multiplex vehicle?
@desgoslingmobility6587 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for getting in touch, cost will vary from vehicle to vehicle quite significantly as it depends how much of the hand controls need to be removed in order to get to the wiring on that particular vehicle. Cost for the parts is reasonably small but main part of it is labour to remove and reinstall the hand controls. There may also be another product such as some sort of Remote Control Device for secondary functions which makes more sense to retro-fit. Best thing will be for you to get in touch with our office on 01332 863742 to discuss. Kind Regards, Des Gosling Mobility

Hi! Is it possible to install a hand control for braking ONLY (aka, the driver can still accelerate using his/her feet)? I can accelerate easily/comfortably, but the brake (which is typically angled/positioned differently) is sometimes difficult to use, as I have "foot drop." As a result, when I go to brake, sometimes only my big toe catches the brake pedal. I would love to have a hand control installed for braking, but still accelerate using the pedal. Look forward to hearing from you!
@desgoslingmobility65873 жыл бұрын
Hi Stephanie, Sorry for the slow reply, this comment must have been missed somehow. It is indeed possible to have a brake only hand control installed. It looks exactly the same but is just not connected up to the accelerator. Kind Regards, Des Gosling Mobility

Hi. I have been a driver for 40 years and in late 2021 suffered cardiac issues, developed sepsis whilst in hospital resulting in bilateral below knee amputations . I have not driven since but am currently doing extensive physio to strengthen and progressing to prosthetic legs. One of my primary aims is to get back driving. Whilst recuperating I have been researching driving adaptations and this solution appears to be really promising for my situation. I have applied for a driving assessment and your adaptations appear the most suitable for my needs. I really appreciate this video and your clear explanation of the potential adaptations. It fills me with great enthusiasm. Thank you. PS I have interest in older classic vehicles also and note that whilst you specify auto transmission as the preferred option, does that rule out the possibility of manual entirely? I would hope to occasionally use manual cars as well as tractors suitably adapted. Would appreciate your thoughts. Once again, thank you for the upload.
@desgoslingmobility6587 Жыл бұрын
We are very glad to hear you found the video useful and informative. The difficulty with a manual transmission is that with one hand in use operating the hand controls and the other holding the steering wheel, it is hard to find another to operate a gear lever. Some systems are available for manual transmissions but we do not install these so are not best placed to advise on this front. Similarly for tractors I am afraid, we do not know about the control layout of these and hence what sort of controls may suit. We have done some weird and wonderful vehicles over the years though but for that sort of thing we usually need to see the vehicle before we can make a recommendation. Kind Regards, Des Gosling Mobility Ltd

I guess you did not take into the fact of power braking the cars for those big burnouts. Lol I lost my left leg and all my old cars are 4 speeds so I need to make or get a set of controls to take off with with. My idea is simular to yours, but I want to use a motorcycle throttle for the gas and use my right leg for the clutch. My controls will mainly be for taking off only. My cars are a 66 galaxie and two 66 mustangs so I will have to clamp around the steering column on each vehicle. The indicator switch is a great idea!

When pulling to accelerate, do you have to keep pulling on the hand control or can you let go of it once the car is up to the speed limit on wherever you are driving?
@desgoslingmobility65875 жыл бұрын
You do have to maintain pressure on the hand control to keep the speed of the car up like you do on a foot pedal. However, if the car has cruise control fitted then this can be used as normal.

I suffer with carpal tunnel syndrome in both my wrists...buy I need hand controls because of neuropathy in my feet...will these controls be ok with my CTS?
@HighTen_Melanie4 жыл бұрын
The ElectricHobo I don’t see how hand controls will help CTS as you are using far greater pressure on your hands and wrists than normal driving. You are going to be making the problem worse because you need considerable hand strength to operate the push/pull lever. Hope you can find a solution for your CTS. All the best.
