Jeff Koons in Conversation with George Condo | Who's Afraid of the New Now?

Jeff Koons sits down with George Condo to discuss their shared history in the art world and how it felt when young artists rallied around the New Museum after its inception in 1977.
Jeff Koons (b. 1955, York, Pennsylvania) is a contemporary artist known for his large-scale sculptural pieces satirizing popular culture and art history. Recent exhibitions have appeared at Château de Versailles, France, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, Neue Nationalgalerie, Berlin, and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, among others. He has also received the Officer of the French Legion of Honor (2007), the Artistic Achievement Award from Americans for the Arts (2006), and the Skowhegan Medal for Sculpture (2002).
George Condo (b. 1957) is a contemporary visual artist known for his paintings, sculptures, drawings, and prints. He has had exhibitions at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York and the Stalliche Kunthstalle Baden-Baden in Germany, among others. In 1991, he collaborated with William S. Burroughs to create a series of writings and etchings titled Ghost of Chance, which was later published by the Whitney Museum. He also created the cover art for Jack Kerouac's Book of Sketches and Kanye West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.
"Who's Afraid of the New Now?" was a series of artist conversations commissioned by the New Museum in celebration of our 40th anniversary. This two-day event, hosted from December 2, 2017, to December 3, 2017, featured a selection of public conversations with artists whose exhibitions, works, and interventions have shaped and transformed the identity and history of the New Museum.
