It's hard to imagine now, but "Mr Blue Sky" was just another minor song in ELO's deep catalog and got almost no radio play in the US for 25 years. That all changed in 2002, when a Volkswagen commercial finally brought it into the mainstream consciousness. Masterpiece.

Just looked it up and it didn't break top 20 anywhere besides the UK where it peaked at nr 6. This is the case for a lot of classic songs though. Bowie was beaten over and over again by The Osmonds for example. :)

Just seeing this for the first time in 2021. It gave me goose bumps. A live performance that sounds just as good as the album version. ELO were always in the charts growing up in the UK in the 1970s. You couldn't see a Top of the Pops without seeing that ELO UFO in the charts. Jeff Lynne is an underrated musical genius. My 10 year old daughter listens to this song, I'm trying to get her into GOOD music.
