Jeff Marek has been fired by Sportsnet-DUMB MOVE

Jeff Marek is no longer employed by Sportsnet. Talk about a dumb and stupid move. The Athletic published a very good article on why Marek was fired. According to league and media industry sources, Marek had been questioned by the Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) and NHL security for allegedly leaking the names of players that teams were drafting just moments before the picks were publicly announced. They should have fired Ron Maclean and kept Marek. Can't stand Maclean and don't watch intermissions since that traitor sewered his "friend" Don Cherry. No respect for the man.

when it came right to it maclean had to chose between feeding his family and backing his friend. there was no sense in one and all the sense in the other. there are a lot of times when maclean softened the blows that were don cherry. the last time there was no going back. the "those people" comment was the last straw and he got fired. what happened to cherry was his own fault and no one else's and maclean going down with the ship would have served no purpose. when you say things that could get you fired, you shouldn't expect sympathy.

@@denisjl100 I agree with you. One small disagreement is the ‘no going back’ part. Cherry made the comments on a Saturday. He was asked to apologize by Sportsnet on a Sunday and refused. He was fired on Monday. By coincidence it was also November 11. But he could’ve apologized like MacLean then they would’ve continued as normal and everybody would mostly forget the incident.

It's become to impossible not to beg into some loophole in this whole being thing no matter who you are... it was fine to bet on outcomes that no one knew aho was going to win a game kr by hkw much etc but now that you can bet on simlpliest of things including where a player is being drafted (because insiders know lists') that is no more "luck of chance" betting anymore like i had just forementioned and to be able to bet on things controlled by simple outcomes determined by a single individual! Smh....

Honestly I think his contract must of been up and they opted not to renew Purley for financial reasons. That being said his show will be missed. Rogers has also bailed on Monday night hockey turning it over to prime . Having said that the price of tickets has made attending games in person to expensive for me. Last year I went to 8 games Canucks home opener against the Oilers and the leafs game mid season plus a handful of other games and this this season I can't afford those games due to the cost. As a fan who started going to games over 20 years ago it makes me sad to think that part of my life is done due to the NHL's greed

We don’t know all the facts as to the why but as per usual in modern reactionary times the majority commenting seem to think Marek was fired without cause. If it comes out that Marek broke the law, engaged with a minor etc or whatever that crosses the line I hope some will come back and acknowledge they’ve jumped the gun but I doubt it.

the american guy, typing from the geographic quirk that puts detroit north of Windsor. sn? how could you be so dumb? after stumbling upon Marek a few years back while recovering from an illness and being able to watch television any time i wanted to, i found Jeff Marek doing a panel show on the hockey network. he was one of the regulars and i found him very entertaining and knowledgeable too boot. i got to be a regular viewer and watched almost every day. most days that show was the highlight of my activities. then covid happened and it didn't take long for that show to get the axe. recently i began spending time on youtube and lately became aware of the 32 Thoughts program and it was Jeff AND Elliotte Friedman. talk about a welcome surprise, two of my favorite hockey people on one program. so cool, so cool, i was so surprised, almost beside myself. well work happens and i get pulled away, and today i find out that Jeff has been released from the show. my emotions are swinging all around, i can hardly believe it. so to you, the ass hats at sn, how cruel can you be? to hand a guy his hat in the middle of an event where Jeff is employed to cover the news while it develops. how could you do that? i hope we get the truth someday. in the meantime, Jeff, i'm so going to miss you, your knowledge, humor, showmanship and style. i have you and Elliotte to thank for so many hours of entertainment. i know that you will recover from this and be back on the air very soon, whatever the medium i know that it will be fun and always enjoyable. in the meantime, i WILL miss you!
