Always a great guest but don't see too often. His books are great. Higher level than most sports books. Thorough. Favorite is Sweetness.

I loved the first episode of Winning Time. Very energetic and funny. I love how they put a dramatized spin on true events.

I loved John C Reilly’s portrayal as Jerry Buss Was Jerry West that crazy ?
@ericbauer90292 жыл бұрын
If you're basing it on the book -- which I've read 2x -- he definitely has his moments, but the book did not give the indication that he was angry ALL the time and dropping F-bombs every other minute. There is a scene in a steakhouse on a team dinner and it's clear that West has a sense of humor, for sure (it is a great scene in the book and I hope it's included in the series. Also -- and it's been a while since I read Showtime, so I might be misremembering -- it wasn't as simple as "Magic's too tall to dribble" in the NBA. Jerry West is/was a smart mo-fo (and super hardworkng); he loved Moncreif for his D and because the Lakers already had Nixon at PG. To think West wouldn't be able to see Magic's potential greatness is beyond silly.

Jerry was abused by his father at a young age so I have no trouble believing that he certainly had his demons and felt the way the show portrays to a degree but like Jeff says, it's exaggerated a bit.

AND Kareem spent 4 years in college before going to the NBA......

Magic, like Kareem, is too often overlooked when discussing the greatest ever. And I am a Stockton fan who believes that he, as a point guard, is 1 and 1A with Magic among point guards.

I agree 100%. Jordan's success seems to eclipse Kareem and Magic's Lakers and i dont know why. Those 80's Lakers teams won in a harder/tougher league than Jordan's teams and those Celtics teams they managed to beat were extraordinarily great.

@@weegeemike Larry and Magic both said many times, that MJ is the best player they ever saw walking this planet. And both are always mentioned, when it comes to the GOAT argument and real b-ball heads are talking. Kareem`s track record is second to none on the other hand (only Russell won more). But gets not mentioned that often, bc he lacked the flashy play, was controversial at the time and wasn`t a media guy.

The Jordan Love era in Green Bay is officially finished. The Packers might trade him in the draft. He's probably as good as any other QB in this weak QB draft, and not as raw.

I actually heard the story of Magic requesting a hamburger during their first meeting together. Sorry Jeff, that's not breaking news. I'm actually not interested in watching the show. Seems like they made the team into a parody based on the trailers I've watched.

I have very little respect for Pearlman, especially after hearing him defend the series as "entertainment". Come on. You can't have it both ways, saying the series is "loyal to the book" but also manipulated for entertainment value. I don't find the series entertaining at all. It's a grossly disrespectful, shallow, slanderous and self-indulgent production filled with caricatures more than characters. I saw much of the first four or five episodes, which are truly obnoxious, but from what little I've seen of more recent episodes it seems to have gone a bit more serious and respectful. Why did it shift gears like that? Lack of control over tone and stylistic integrity. Pearlman has said in a print interview that he was so thrilled upon visiting the set of the series, as if he was a kid visiting Disneyland for the first time. How immature and devoid of critical thinking can you be? Those who know more of the real events say the series is largely dishonest and not even faithful to the book, so that makes me wonder if Pearlman is just talking out of contractual obligation or to ingratiate himself with the filmmakers. Either way, if the series is reflective of the book, I wouldn't devote five minutes to the book. More than anything, I'm disappointed in Colin for fawning over the series and Pearlman's book. I thought Colin was a more discerning and critically demanding person than that. It's worth noting that Jerry West has demanded, through his lawyers, that the producers offer a retraction and public apology for so badly slandering his character and actions. Kareem has savaged the series for gross dishonesty and disrespect as well as laziness and superficiality. Although I know they have reputations to protect, I tend to trust their judgment more than that of this journalist whose integrity and honesty remain very much in question.
