"It is indeed, according to young Senator Jeff Sessions, speaking about President Bill Clinton’s impeachment in 1999. Past-Sessions seems pretty upset that Clinton lied under oath, promising a fair trial while calling the allegations “severe.” “No one is above the law,” he adds, before noting that “The president has gotten himself into this fix.” At the time, Clinton was being publicly investigated for crimes relating to extra-marital sex in the Oval Office; meanwhile, one of Sessions’ meetings with the Russians apparently happened in September 2016, when alleged Russian hacking of the U.S. election was at its height.
A spokesperson for Sessions has denied claims that he may have been untruthful to Congress, saying, “There was absolutely nothing misleading about his answer.” She resisted the urge to quibble about the meaning of the word “is”.”*

He was very clearly asked during his confirmation hearings if he had any contact with the Russians before hand. He said no while under oath but now we know he lied about that. The content and nature of said contact is irrelevant. He lied while under oath and should be severely punished for by losing his job. It is unacceptable for someone in his position to lie while under oath and anybody in public office should be fired if caught lying under oath. No exceptions, that goes for republicans and democrats.

Context matters. Jeff Sessions was a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, as a Senator of that committee, he just like many Senators, would have frequent contact with foreign ambassadors. He was asked specifically "as a surrogate for the Trump campaign, did he have contact with Russian officials." His response first, was that he disputed being called a surrogate, because other than endorsing Trump, he didn't do the typical surrogatry, that most surrogates do. But he did say, that a someone representing, the Trump campaign, he did not have contact with Russian, which would be classified as a true statement. He was not asked about contact with Russian officials, during the course of he regular duties, as a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee. Had he been asked that & had he still said no, ONLY THEN would he have been considered lying. But that is context that TYT typically, does not share, because they do not like inconvenient truths that go against their own narrative.
