Jeff Teague says on Club 520 that the NBA needs to get rid of the one-and-done rule so stars like Ace Bailey of Rutgers, Cooper Flagg of Duke, and AJ Dybantsa of BYU don't get their talents diminished by playing college basketball. Jeff argues that the NBA was better off when prospects who were ready to be professional players, like Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, and Kevin Garnett were able to make the jump directly to the NBA.

Like who? Because it’s not like random guys are just choosing to go right out of hs. Only players that actually drew in NBA scouts could go straight out of high school. Bron, Kobe, Jermaine O’Neal, JR Smith, Dwight, Lou Will, Al Jefferson, Big Perk.

How would a college coach benefit from sabotaging a player? A college coach’s job is to win games and bring in top recruits. How could you do either by sabotaging someone’s career? Some of these kids just haven’t learned how to play or been coached until they reach college so it’s a culture shock for them.

I dont know man, some of the points Teague has make sense from the players' perspectives for sure, but not the teams. Like wagner being a projected top 5 pick out of HS is the exact reason NBA teams want to see these guys at a higher level before they make such an investment on a guy who would clearly end up having been a bust.

Drafting players straight out of high school isn't beneficial to the league. What is more attractive to the league, a somewhat known Cooper Flagg straight out of high school or Flagg after being in the national spotlight at Duke? And the average fan knew absolutely nothing about Ace until they saw in play at Rutgers. Honestly, LeBron was the only player to come in the league out of high school with any brand recognition. Also, I don't care if some players gets exposed and has to stay in school longer than they originally planned. It's best for the future to stay in college anyway.

Honestly can’t compare football to basketball…. NFL is a grown man’s game. High school boys definitely ain’t ready for the NFL. Hell to the nah… Basketball I have mixed feelings… bot from a physical perspective but from a maturity perspective. It’s only been a handful of players in the history of the league who’ve been successful in the NBA, can name them easily. But for football, it doesn’t have to do anything with race, but with physical development… and skill set. Football players need college… ain’t never been a player that I believed could’ve went from High School football to the NFL, just nah. lol. Hell nah.

I think that a player should just go ahead and try the NBA out of HS. If they are good enough, why wait? Plus, these college programs can't be built out properly with players that are only staying one year. It's ruining college and the pros simultaneously, like Jeff said. I'll add a wrinkle...If they aren't drafted, keep their NCAA eligibility. Let them have the perspective of not being quite ready for the league and then staying to improve. If they ARE drafted, even if it's the 2nd round, they lose NCAA eligibility.
