Bigwater Fishing

Күн бұрын

Jeff Tyson is the Program Manager of Fishery Management for the Great Lakes Fishery Commission. Jeff and I talked about the health of the Great Lakes, fish populations, and the most threatening invasive species.
Capt. Ross Robertson has made his complete living chasing walleye as a full time professional angler for more than 20 years. Through the years he has worn many hats including time as a fishing guide, boat salesman, TV host, outdoor writer, product designer, tournament fisherman, speaker, radio host and podcaster to name a few.
Ross fishes ice-out to ice-up on the Great Lakes. He spends the majority of the year walleye fishing on Lake Erie’s Western and Central basins.

The death and life of the Great Lakes is a great book that provides a very informative overview of the history of invasive aquatic species in the Great Lakes.

I saw asian carp inside the managed waterfowl zone at Pt Mouille about 5 years ago. They were jumping out of the water as we were running down the canal inside the marsh. They must have not liked the vibrations from my go devil motor. Have not seen them since then.

In the south we call them all coke, probably because coke was started in Atlanta. RC cola goes with a moon pie, made in Chattanooga Tennessee

Up in saginaw bay we jason Morgan pushing for commercial netting. Up north on lake Huron and Michigan whitefish population has crashed. I say let the Indians net. But they better be paddling out there in a birch canoe they made

this is always an interesting debate. eastern huron on the canadian side faces this issue a ton. Brown stocking is useless because most get caught in netting and they have no regs on them. I think they toned down on it a ton or completely stopped.
