"Wooden ships" written by David Crosby, Paul Kantner and Stephen Stills.
Recorded live at the Woodstock music & art fair, on Sunday 17th August 1969.
All right, I would like to say FUCK YOU CORPORATE ASSHOLES FOR NOT LETTING US SHARE ART. Fucking wmg and its fucking copyright shit. Gawd am I pissed!
Anyway, this vid is unavailable only in Germany unfortunately but I cannot do something for this, I'm sorry! I had to break the song into two parts 'cause it's very long.
JA performing this brilliant song at Woodstock -what more could we ask for? Listen to Marty, Grace and Paul sing some brilliant lyrics.
Go ride the music people!

Don't forget these guys did this set at dawn Sunday morning. The last act to play music that started around noon Saturday. The acts just before this set included Sly and the Family Stone, Janis Joplin and The Who. It was just starting to get light when the Who finished up then Jefferson Airplane played. Great stuff and a life changing experience for me. What better way to start the day than with a Jefferson Airplane concert. :)

Yup. Quick and light. Agile. Much less pondersome than most rock drummers simply content with keeping time. His jazz background kept things moving along and most of their jams stayed really interesting because of his work. Dryden's all over the place on this Wooden Ships" jam yet seeming to control direction. And...thank God too. Spencer was a stud behind the drum set.

THE OTHER " WOODEN SHIPS" SIMPLY MARVELOUS. JEFFERSON' AIRPLANE'S " WOODEN SHIPS" GIVES THE SOARING VOICES OF GRACE SLICK & THE LATE MARTY BALIN, ALONG W/THE LATE PAUL KANTNOR & JORMA K.'S ROUSING GUITAR, + BASS & DRUMS TO RIVAL " C S & N", EACH IS A "MASTERFULL WORK OF ART"

I just want to say that Spencer Dryden was such a talent. His transitions and sensitivity really were the Airplane. I have nothing against Joey Covington but Spencer to me was the necessary component or bridge in the complex nature of JA.

Yeap, both great voices, both overall great artists. Different, but they both held their own!

Ragged version of this song my arse! This is balls-out top-drawer, period. To play this song live in key-pitch and on the money is extremely difficult. But to then free-form improvise on top of all that without ever missing a beat is nothing short of staggering. AND! It was a new song at the time. Never ceases to amaze me their performance at this gig. This is the Airplane.

Gotta say, I was mad back then (meaning when I couldn't upload the song). I'm chill now but still, these guys suck big time. You know, listening to an artist here on youtube has NEVER prevented me from buying their records! As for your comment, I completely agree...Calling these bastards hypocrites is an understatement!

Grace could sing the hell out of anything. Overshadowed in that era a bit by Janis Joplin, but they could both bring it.

He happened to be the drummer in the best lineup and best era of the band. More jazz accents than Covington, who was more of a classic rock drummer. Neither one better than the other, just different.

When I first heard this I thought she sang "I can see by your coat my friend that you're from the other side There's just one thing I got to know Can you tell me please- why?" Personally i think that would have been a more poignant lyric...
