Because YT says I haven’t had the viewing hours I get zero revenue from my channel but it is, as you say, rewarding in other ways. It’s just a little bit addictive too. But the biggest thing for me has been the community. In our little corner of the new media universe we have some particularly good people. Well said SB. Never forget that we appreciate you for all you do.
@Saddlebags7316 күн бұрын
Thank you so much CyL. Keep plugging away and you’ll reach the requirements. Then you can sit back and count it coming in 🤣 I’ve had so many good experiences, including meeting with your good self on several occasions, all as a result of this YT madness. It never entered my mind when I started the channel that friendships and communities would develop. It’s the best bloody bit 😀 All the best my friend 👍🏼

Arr the pros and cons of KZbin. Sounds like there's still more pros than cons for you. It's definitely about the people you meet (either directly for rides or indirectly online) I still struggle to understand what gets views and what doesn't. The problem is there's loads of channels out there competing for views. Lots use very click bait thumb nails and titles. We're enjoying our break from making vids, feels like less pressure. We appreciate the work you put into your vids, and we enjoy watching. Cheers and best wishes
@Saddlebags7315 күн бұрын
The only con really is getting too wrapped up in the numbers. We’re better off just making the vids that we want to make, when we can make them. It’s impossible to understand what works, but your next random vid might be the one to grab some attention, who knows. But whatever, the best part of of it all is the friendships and experiences that come from this KZbin madness 🤣 I’m glad you’re taking a break.l, it’s well deserved. I know how hard you’ve been working on the vids. Many thanks for the support. All the best to both 🙂🍻

I absolutely love watching your videos of our part of the country and your waffle is always interesting. One day, we may meet, when I've had my shots, but I feel like you're already a friend. Even though you come from south of the border. KZbin has made me many friends and one very special one, who I was not expecting, and you all keep me trying for my CBT. Its only lack of money that's slowed me down, plus the last instructor was an absolute tosser, but watching your videos keeps my eyes on the prize.😊

Ah Lily, another friendship born in the comment section 🙂 If we get to meet you must take me to a decent pasty outlet, my shout. I could make a video about it 😆 Oh I’m pleased your KZbin experience is a good one. The friendship and community side is just the best. Best of luck with the CBT. Let’s make it this year. Find a different instructor and get it done 👍🏼

Nail on the head, at every point made there, every week I ask "WHY" but keep going for the very reasons you mention. The KZbin stamps, description, tags, thumbnail etc is the bit that does me head in. Its a kicker when the channel stays stagnant but as noob said, the summer will kick it off again. Life wouldn't be the same without your videos to look forward too. Keep up the good work. I may not like you as a person, but always know you are a very good KZbinr with a good channel 😎👍

I only do vids now as a video journal to look back at when I'm in the retirement home reminiscing. The good part is interacting with the comments from around the planet....I always enjoy the comment section.

Happy New Year Mr SB. I really appreciate all the effort that you put into your videos.The last social ride was great, especially the turnout when you consider it was the day immediately following the great storm of 2024! The routes you ride showcase the back lanes of Devon and Cornwall and it's always fun trying to recognise places. Your channel is unpretentious and attracts the very best followers and proves that you don't need the most expensive bike to enjoy motorcycling at its best. Keep on doing what you do and enjoy! Thanks SB.

The community is definitely the thing to focus on because it's a real slog looking at the stats for a long while. This year just gone I gave mine the most serious push since I've had it, posting weekly from March until December, and in all honesty it made little to no difference. With the exception of click-baity videos, or review videos, most of my general vlogs still struggle to break 150 views, and have one or two comments. The subscriber gains were also mostly off the back of my BSA ride. It is pretty demotivating when you spend five or six hours making a video as you say, and then the cumulative watch-time is only one-and-a-half. For this year, I will sporadically keep making videos, when the weather improves and I have places to go again, but I don't think I'll bother with the weeklies as there's better things I could be investing my time in. I'm also reticent to spend any further money on equipment, which is a shame as I realistically could do with a few more bits to help with content in-front of the camera. With all that said though, I've met some great people through youtube, both online and in-person, and formed real world friends who I've ridden with, bought and sold bikes to, camped with, and in one case even attended a wedding for. For that reason I don't regret starting it, or the time spent so far, but it would definitely be nice if it had made progress enough that it paid for itself and formed a community. It is what it is though, and I don't want to be chasing click-bait every video, or riding a sportsbike in a straight line down dual carriageways, just to get views. I just make what I make, and try to be active in other people's comment sections.
@Saddlebags7315 күн бұрын
All of that 👆👏 I never have taken much notice of analytics. I used to focus on view counts and subscribers, but now I'm just not bothered about numbers. The friends and experiences top it all. And it was something that I could never have imagined when I started the channel. Do what you can, when you feel like it. One day a random video will hit the spot and you probably won't even be trying. Thanks Spectre, all the best!

I know exactly what you mean when you said that you was over the moon to get a hundred subscribers. I started my channel in May of last year, purely for my own benefit so that I could document my rides and have part of my life available for me to look back on in my dotage. When I got a hundred subscribers I was totally shocked, as I didn't think ten people would care about my ramblings, let alone a hundred. I only have 564 subscribers but it's really lovely to have some of them regularly comment and say how much they enjoy my videos. Makes it so much more than just an archive for myself. I don't care about chasing views and creating content that will draw in views - 99% of the time I don't even have a plan around what I am going to womble on about on the ride (hence the 564 subs 🤣). The main thing though is that it gives me a purpose and gets me out on the bike in times when I may not really feel like it. Anyway - love your content mate, keep it up.

We are very much on the same page. I didn’t expect (or hope) to build a following at all. When it seemed others were interested in what I was posting it came as quite a surprise. I watch and I live most of the content, the scenery ( looks just like Australia), the chat . And I get that it’s not an easy process for you. But we as viewers can’t know all this nor have we the commitment that the content makers do. The platform is designed for the user , I can come and go from a video , save it , watch it again , comment, like or dislike. I appreciate it all but it’s not my fault that it’s hard work. I’ll keep watching. The idea of a group ride organised is a good one, I’m a bit far away 10k miles for that but it does take the value of a Chanel to another level. Sort of forms a club doesn’t it like the old days when we had to find a way to get together and enjoy the bikes. Please keep going.

Thank you kindly. Although this sounded like a whinge and moan, the point I was trying to make was that the numbers of subs, views etc. really don’t matter. The community, experiences and friendships that have come as a result of running the channel make me more than happy. Thanks again, I very much appreciate your support. If you fancy joining us for a social ride I can arrange a late start 😉 Take care over there.

Hehe, pretty much summoned up all the reasons and benefits of why I still bother.😊 I think I broke 400 subs a few months ago, but I shook hands with at least half of them! 😊 People underestimate the amount of time that goes into editing, but it is so much fun in terms of creativity - throw in 360 footage and its a full day of editing with all the possible things that can be done! I do post quite infrequent now - often keep it under 10 minutes or so - saving the longer cuts for the rallies, etc. You do have your own personal style and I admit having stolen an idea or two over the years with some enjoyable back and forward banter. I wouldn't worry so much about channel growth - even the bigger bikevlog channels seem to have hit a rut and for small fry like us (or even smaller fry like me) KZbin will not make us rich. It's the passion that keeps us going and if a video makes on person's day then objective is achieved. Keep doing what you doing mate, there's always going to be someone enjoying your content!
@Saddlebags7316 күн бұрын
I’m still not ready for a 360 camera 🤣 The numbers haven’t bothered me for a long time, I literally had no expectations when I started so to me it’s massive. A very poignant video on why you will continue with You Tube, SB, and all we subscribers can gratefully look forward to the varied and very enjoyable content those future videos will undoubtedly contain. Not for me.

Well SB I don't feel so bad now, if a great personality and content maker like yourself is struggling, it rather explains why my own channel is in a rut. Folks blame the algorithms, but I think it's deeper than that 🤔 I've sort of put content making on the back burner myself, it just seemed so pointless when you realise how this platform puts the brakes on. It wasn't so much the lack of views, but the stifling of likes and comments, which used to reflect one another. Regular commenter's comments simply remain hidden, they're nowhere to be found. It's one thing for this platform to restrict who sees your content, another entirely when it prevents support from within the community.
@Saddlebags7316 күн бұрын
Ah the praise is high and undeserved, but very much appreciated, thank you kindly sir. I’ve considered giving it up a time or two. It can be a slog if you’re a slave to the YT system. I realise now that even if I gain no more subscribers, I have already gained far more than I ever imagined in terms of friendships and community. I can’t think why your channel is suffering those bugs. There was a time that comments were going missing on mine. But that seems to have fixed itself….or has it? 🤔 I wouldn’t know 🤷🏻♂️ I hope it hasn’t completely ruined the experience for, and you carry on regardless🤞🏼 Many thanks Mr Wolf, all the best to you both 👍🏼

I think some of the problem may be the apparent similarity between you tubers with their channel names and the old CB radio morons with their handles. It is noticeable how certain groups of you tubers, such as motorcycle vloggers form a clique and constantly refer to each other, bigging each other up. I find that rather tiresome as I am watching (say) your channel as I generally enjoy the content but do not really want to know what "thicky biker 33" is doing or thinking. Anyway, glad to hear you are going to persevere as I do enjoy most of your content!

I appreciate your feedback, thanks RT. Haha, I never gave any thought to my channel name. I didn’t think starting a channel would lead to anything. I wonder if that’s common amongst KZbinrs. I have always mentioned other channels, often making recommendations. Honestly, you should look up ‘Lost and Savage’, outstanding vids especially if you like the adventure scene, but interesting even if you don’t. Oops! 🤭 I suppose it’s quite natural for us to mention channels that we come to know. There’s a community between us too. Still interesting to hear your take on it though, and I do understand why it might niggle you. It’s a bit like adding music. Some don’t want any, for some it’s the wrong music but hopefully it works for the majority. Anyway, all taken on board. Thanks again, I really do appreciate your thoughts and support 👍🏼
