There are a few things you may notice right away on this video. First, where is your beard Mr. Ed? And probably right after you asked yourself that question it was followed by, wait a minute, when was this video recorded. Then you will hear me say the date of this recording, July 4th 2020.
I do not know how I passed this video up, but when I was looking through some SD cards last week, I came across this footage and realized I had never posted the video. So, now you have all the answers to your questions.
Charlie shot some great video once again, and the removal went textbook perfect, even when it came to the robber bees showing up. For those of you interested, I did include the link to the video that described the situation with this hive as the video runs. Also, if things go right, my next video will be current. Thanks for watching. God's peace always. Mr. Ed

Wow. OK this colony has had a rough time of it. That they still have a queen is totally remarkable. I appreciate how you handled this - and I do believe your approach has given them a good chance. Now obviously, it being full winter now - I think this was filmed a few months ago? So - stopped to see the description - you anticipated us! Thank you sir!! So it was recorded July 4th of 2020. You failed in guessing the questions only in the follow up. On your next filming, take a few minutes please and show us this colony. I would like to know what kind of lemonade they made out of this! Bees - like all of God's creation - are perfect in what they are and do and how they do it. If any creature can turn their history into a legend - it's this colony! I am so pulling for them!

It is nice to hear the bees and birds chirping and summer sounds. Maybe this is God's way of making winter less hard. Your bees are such good producers that they out built the brood and honey stores. Amazing. God bless you and the guys. Those bells are so pretty.

I have an idea for a simple device that should help you doing cutouts. Since I'm not a beekeeper it's probably a stupid idea, but that's not new. Often I see you cut a piece of comb, look for the queen, then pick up the vacuum hose, vacuum off the bees, and put the comb in a cooler. Now imagine a very thin wood box about the size of one frame, open on top, with your vacuum hose attachment to an outlet on low on one side. You cut the comb, look for the queen, and put the comb in the box. Now you lift the box by the vacuum hose, maybe tap it once or twice to knock off the bees, which enter the vacuum. Tip it upside-down in the cooler to deposit the comb, and go cut another piece. You may not even need to put down the knife. Hope you fine the idea useful, but feel free to tell me it won't work. I've never done what you do. Be well. God's Peace.

Awesome. I have a crazy idea. (Thinking outside the box) All I know about bees is what I have learned from you and YES the dirt rooster. Lol. So , maybe if you just cut a bunch of holes in the bottom board where the comb gaps are and place a hive box on top with no entrance other than from the bottom. Maybe you can get them to move on up on there own . Then close off the holes and open the top entrance. . Maybe net time . It would be a great experiment. I would love to see the results.

Hi Mr Ed, I really appreciate your kindness and love your explanations. I have watched many many hours of your work it’s wonderful! I would really appreciate if you would close out each hive with closure if you would not mind in the future? I would love it if maybe a week later you just gave us 30 or so seconds of here is the hive 2 weeks later see how great they are doing. As you share hive retrieval and or repair etc many times we are just curious how the hive did and maybe how many boxes you ended up needing for the size of retrieval. Thank you for your giving heart and the hard work you do to put together these videos.

It was really concerned they were next and probably where most of the robbers were from.

I really enjoy your videos. When I was little ( 70+ years ago) 13:47 my neighbor had bees. They usually swarmed into the almond tree right outside my bedroom window. As soon as I saw the swarm starting I would call him and he would come get them when they settled. I got lots of bee stings trying to rescue them from drowning in the dogs water bowl and stepping on them in the clover in the lawn. I got lots of free honey! One question you have probably already answered someplace: what are robber bees? Are they just bees from other hives or are they a different species?
@JeffHorchoff
@JeffHorchoff 8 ай бұрын
Great story, thank you for sharing it. Robber bees are bees from another hive that come to steal honey from a different hive and bring it back to their hive. Any bee has the potential to become a robber bee, all that is needed is the opportunity to act. Thanks for watching. God's peace Sybil. Mr. Ed

Here is a thought, could You put a insulated jacket on your bee box before it gets cold......Yellow
@JeffHorchoff
@JeffHorchoff 4 ай бұрын
I really don't think putting an insulated jacket on the hive before it got cold would stop this issue. Generally, this happens when an unmated queen leaves the hive to get mated. When she returns after mating, instead of going inside of the hive, she goes under it, and hive bee will join her and begin building comb under the box instead of inside of the box. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. @@JeffHorchoff Jeff, I have been watching you and Dirt Rooster, JC, Yappy et al, for many years. Infact it was all of you guys that inspired me to become a beek right here in the centre of Houston two seasons ago. I bought a bee package and captured one swarm (by accident that year in some standby equipment I had built in anticipation of expanding.) That first year one colony died and the other absconded. This season I caught 2 swarms using Mike Barry's lemon grass oil and one was donated to me by my mentor George. These 3 hives have gone gangbusters and 2 of them were 4 deeps tall and one was 3 before harvesting. It's just turned chilly here at night in H town and entrance reducers are about to go on, and lowering the size of the sticks on the telescoping lids to minimise heat loss. Many thanks for all you great videos 😊
